PostSubject: Anthraxs' Secret Show 9/12/11   Tue Sep 13, 2011 2:19 pm

Last night a friend and I went to see Anthrax in NYC at Best Buy theater. If you pre ordered the new album at best buy you got a free ticket for the show. What we didn't know was that, that free ticket also got you into the Metal Masters 2 clinic which started at 5pm. We got into the city around 4ish and we walked over to the place. There was a line already but we thought it was for the Anthrax thing so we just walked around the city for a while. We came back everyone was gone and there was about 2 hours or so left before the doors were suppose to open. So were standing on line and this lady comes over with bracelets for the Metal Masters thing and shes like you can go right in. She never checked our tickets, no one inside checked our tickets it was really weird. From what it said on the ticket that I HAD to print out made me think I needed everything including my birth certificate haha.

We walked in and Dave Ellefson was on stage talking about Megadeth and his bass parts. Then Mike Portnoy comes up and plays with Dave for a while. Dave Leaves and Portnoy stays and talks for a little bit. Portnoy brings out Charlie from Anthrax, Frank Bello, and Dave Ellefson. They play a Zepplin song and it leads off into Portnoy and Charlie doing drum solos which was really cool. Then Ellefson and Bello come back out to finish the song. Then Kerry King comes out on guitar and everyone starts playing Raining Blood and Frank Bello starts singing. I can't remember if they played the whole song or not. Then they played another Slayer song which I forget which song it was. Then Phil Anselmo comes out who wasn't even listed to be there and they do 2 Pantera songs New Level and F*%# Hostile. That ended the Metal Masters thing. My friend and I are usually prepared for concerts and come with cd booklets markers ect. for autographs or even a camera. For some stupid reason we didn't bring any of that and of course they were having a signing in the hallway. We were kind of bummed about that but I figured I actually have pretty much everyones autograph from that anyway so no big deal. I just wish we would have seen the whole shown. If we knew we could have went in earlier we would have seen everything. We got there in time though for the cool part so that was fine.

Anthrax finally came on around 9:30. They played 3 new songs Fight Them Til You Can't, The Devil You Know and Earth On Hell (which was their last song) The rest of the set was basically the usual Got The Time, Antisocial, I Am The Law, Only, Indians, Madhouse, Metal Thrashing Mad, and Caught In A Mosh. Not bad I was hoping for a little more obscure songs since this being a secret show. It was awesome non the less. I never seen Anthrax live before and it was great. Everyone played great, Joey sounded great and it was fun.

I just wish we had a damn camera otherwise I would've had pictures. Maybe I can find some online somewhere. I also wish I would have known that apparently you really didn't need tickets to get in. The cd from Best Buy cost me $17 between tax and shipping when I could have just went to the store today and picked it up for $10. Oh well who knew?!

Cool stuff! Ah, memories of Phil Anselmo on stage (I saw Pantera twice).... I think Phil's the only guy that could take a one hour set and turn it into a two hour set, due to the all extracurricular banter that he feels he needs to have with the audience.

I totally forgot about the DJ that they had after the Clinic and before Anthrax. It was actually kind of hilarious. Where I was sitting I couldn't really tell who the DJ was but my friend and I thought it was a guy. He would play records. A lot of Dio, Black Sabbath, Saxon, Old school bands etc. During the songs he would like dance around and act out the songs. At one point he brought out a sword and started air dueling. It was almost like watching a metal version of Flashdance. My friend and I were laughing it up. The funny thing was he was wearing this Denim Jacket with metal patches on it. When he stepped from behind the DJ booth to dance around he was wearing some kind of pink spandex. I thought that was very odd looking. After the DJ part was over Eddie Truck came out and said everyone give it up for "Lady Starlight". So the whole time it was some woman who from far away looks very much like a man excited about playing his metal records haha. I guess you had to be there but heres her facebook.

They had like those work shirts with that logo on it like where a pocket would be but not a t shirt.

Whats funny is, it always seems like the band has really cool shirts yet they don't sell them for their merchandise. I ended up buying the shirt with the pentagram logo in front of the american flag. Its cool but I would have liked some more choices. The other one was Judge Dredd I forget what else was there they really didn't have much at all.

I looked around and according to a post on the Anthrax message boards, those t-shirts were made custom for the band members and are not for sale. True or not, who knows? I guess if the demand is strong enough, the bootleggers will come through.
