| http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/bizarre/4087335/Hulk-Hogan-I-want-a-word-with-Kasabian.html | Quote: | He plays the bass guitar and spoke of his heartache at missing out on the chance to appear with two of the world's biggest rock bands.
Hulk said: "I used to be a session musician before I was a wrestler. I played bass guitar.
"I was big pals with Lars Ulrich and he asked me if I wanted to play bass with Metallica in their early days but it didn't work out.
"Jerry Hall also asked Mick Jagger if I could play bass with the Rolling Stones. Mick never got back to me." |
Don't know if he means just for a jam or to actually join. Hulk tells some wild tales. I wonder what year exactly he is considering to be Metallica's "early days" because Hogan was well on his way to conquering the world of wrestling and becoming a mainstream celebrity when Metallica were just kids. Can't really see Hulk & Lars having time to interact and become friends if we're talking about the '80s, but Hogan is a rock/metal fan, so who knows. |

| Sounds like typical Hogan BS to me. Also, isn't The Sun a "tabloid" like the National Enquirer? _________________ "Don't reenact scenes from 'Platoon' with Charlie Sheen."

| Basically anything in The Sun is either greatly exaggerated or simply made up. They probably just paid him a bunch of money to say whatever they wanted to. |

| That's a buncha balony, brother.
I'm currently reading Dave Mustaine's book and I just got past the early formation of Metallica. Lars moved to the states in 80 and it wasn't until 81 or so that Metallica was formed. He was a 17 year old kid in California, Hogan was a former bass player in Florida, making his way up the ranks in the wrestling circuit. No way did those 2 talk or even meet back then.
And if he's talking about "early" as when after Cliff died, Hogan was already established in the WWF. Noone was asking him about his mad bass playing skills.
Puh-leeeeze! That story is about as believable as wrestling itself. _________________ A legend in posting since February 1st, 2007

| I'm sure this is just some joke that Lars made to Hogan years later when they met, and when Metallica had already become popular (i.e. likely around Justice / Black Album). I mean it has been 2 decades since the Black Album, and whether we like it or not 20 years is a long freakin time ago.
So it wouldn't surprise me if Hogan is thinking 'early' days i.e. some 20+ years ago.
But in any case, if this was ever discussed or mentioned by Lars to Hogan, it was likely as a joke (not unusual or atypical for Metallica / Lars to make such gags). Hogan is either making too much ado about nothing, or is so infatuated with himself that he cannot get a joke.
Of course there is also the possibility that he is talking sh!t. lol |

| I remember hearing two or three years ago about how Hogan expressed interest in joining Metallica. Presumably maybe after Cliff died, perhaps. |

| A few other things were revealed in that interview that might have been overlooked. I've taken the liberty of pointing out a few other notable "facts" for your enjoyment: Chuck Norris once asked Hulk for karate lessons. Liam Neeson once asked Hulk for acting lessons. Wolfgang Puck once asked Hulk for recipe ideas. George Bush Sr. asked the Hulkster to be his VP back in '88. He was instead given an honorary title of 'Secretary of the Department of 24" Pythons, Brother' Doc Brown asked Hogan to stop buy his house and pick up a video camera to document a very important project he was working on at the Twin Pines Mall. Hulk Hogan was the first choice for the title role in 'The Godfather', 'Tootsie' and 'Indiana Jones'. The Aztecs based their doomsday calendar on Hulk's 59th birthday. It was Hulk Hogan that deemed Pluto was in fact not a planet. Hulk Hogan paid off record producers & dj's to get Brooke's cd on the air (that one really might be true) _________________ A legend in posting since February 1st, 2007

Ding ding.
The Sun is a catty tabloid but I don't think they would make up quotes. Besides, Hulk was over in the UK to help promote TNA, so that's how they caught up with him. |

| Seems folks have already made up their minds but i'll do a little time line anyways.
1981- Metallica forms. In fact Lars started looking for musicians in May of 1981. In October of 1981 Metallica formed officially. They didn't hire Ron McGoveny to play bass until March of 1982.
Hulk Hogan didn't go back to the WWF until 1983. He left the WWWF in 1980 in order to fly to L.A. and do Rocky III while also working off and on in AWA and NJPW. Oh and recording a hard rock album in Japan.
It may or may not be true, the fact is it is possible that a single 27 year old Hard Rock/Metal bassist who had yet to explode as a Pro Wrestler was spending his free time in L.A. at concerts and record stores(In between hanging out at Gold's Gym and the boardwalk almost daily, according to Sting who used to see him around L.A. and Venice Beach all the time back then) and became friends with the Danish midget who spent his time in L.A. you know, hanging out at concerts and record stores. It's also possible the Danish kid who was basically begging people via the newspaper to come out and jam asked Terry Bollea if he wanted to play bass in the band he was trying to start.
Or maybe not. Although I don't see Lars coming out refuting any of it so....
