| Any fans of the The Cars? I've long been a fan of their first two albums. Probably just a product of the times I grew up in, but both those albums are good IMO. I actually have their first album on CD. I need to add it to NLTM eventually, but I'm just dreading the inevitable "The Cars aren't metal" emails. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

| Scott, who cares, get them and review them. The first album is hit after hit, I enjoy that album. |

| Yeah, I like The Cars. They had some really great songs. Whenever I hear their music it takes me back to the 80's. Never thought of them as metal... More like classic rock IMO. |

They are not metal. Classic rock is how I would describe them, though back in the day they were labeled 'new wave' as I recall. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

I just said that because I thought you were trying to say they were metal (since you put them here in the metal discussion area). I wouldn't even call them hard rock... Yeah, they got their start in the "new wave" scene. Actually to me, they sound like a cross between Tom Petty and Missing Persons. |

| I only know them from whatever hits they had on the radio. They had some cool videos on MTV too. And for providing the music to this very famous scene... Fu Manchu do a cool cover of 'Moving In Stereo'. _________________ A legend in posting since February 1st, 2007

Until I saw this movie, "Moving In Stereo" was always the weak link on The Cars S/T for me. That all changed after Fast Times however. |

| One of the good moments in 80s pop/rock IMO. Almost a soundtrack to the decade. It's your site, Scott! Put 'em on! |

| Love The Cars. I've always loved their first 2 albums, the others not as much but they have grown on me over the years (30 I guess...). Now I like everything they've done, for one reason or another (nostalgia, or the fact that it just plain rocks.). But those first 2 albums are special, especially the debut. One of my favorite albums of all time. |

Same here. That one, Van Halen's S/T and Boston's S/T are classic examples of bands releasing iconic debut albums IMO. |

| The guitar tone/sound that Ric Ocasek and Elliot Easton had on the early LP's were original and brought something new to rock.
I keep meaning to check out The New Cars, though they only lasted two years it says on wikipedia. |

| Wouldn't call myself a major fan but their albums are very good. Just something I have to be in the mood for. One of the better rock/pop bands though. I don't own 'Heartbeat City' or 'Door to Door' but I like the first four albums alot and 'Move Like This' is very good too and has that classic Cars sound. |

To tell the truth, I'd personally like to see some more non-metal stuff here...And I don't quite get you, you already have Phil Collins, Journey, Peter Gabriel, Toto, Styx, Foreigner etc., but are now afraid of people complaining because of non-metal bands on the site? Have you heard Benjamin Orr's solo album, btw?
This is a quite nice song from it. |
