| I buy mostly thrash, and I use money from Christmas and Birthday......Once it's out it's out.....For the year......Usually I run out of patients waiting for bands I have, or know I like to release something new, so I am always in search of new ones......Not that my patients is justified.....It can take a long time to put out an album, and that's fine with me...... |

| Use lists as a guide, but often time the real fun part of the search is finding other bands you didn't expect to find. Often I'll find something even better than what I initially started investigating. _________________ |

| I have a "want list" that I try to stick to in order to keep my music buying within reason, but if I hear something I like, I get it. I don't go out of my way too much to find new bands, but again, if I stumble across something, I'll check them out. _________________ A legend in posting since February 1st, 2007

| When I shop, it's mostly pot luck when shopping locally. I never know what used CDs are going to be in whatever shop I want into...it's kind of cool that way. I have gone in expecting to pick up what I may have skipped last time only to find some new arrival that takes the place of it. |

| At work, I have a list somewhere of CDs I plan on buying on future hauls. My next haul will probably be shortly after I move into my apartment, likely sometime in March. |

| I have a list ( a never ending list mind you) and I usually stick to that unless a new disc from an established artist I like is released, or some other reason such as going to a flea market or a pawnshop and see a bunch of cheapo CD's from bands/artists I like.
It is very rare I do an impulse buy since in my area, for the most part all actual music stores have closed their doors |

| I used to have a written "want list" that I kept in my wallet for when I went CD scrounging, but since that happens very rarely nowadays, said list is now kept in my head rather than in my pocket. _________________ "Boys, set the terror level at code brown, 'cause I need to change my pants." -- President Hathaway, "Monsters vs. Aliens"

I try to stick to purchasing only items my list.
However, getting put on the list is easier than Lindsay Lohan in a Hollywood nightclub with a bag of Columbian marching powder. Boo-ya!! _________________ A legend in posting since February 1st, 2007

That's my favorite way of shopping as well. Too bad there are fewer and fewer places to find great stuff. There is a store called CD Source but it takes hours to browse their CDs and I end up spending too much money. I can still capture a few of those searching moments using Amazon's suggestions when you look at a CD but again I end up buying and spending too much.
As for lists, I used to keep ones but I kept forgetting to update them. I now just try to go on memory. |

| I usually divide up the funds three ways.
1: What I want to buy specifically.
2: A set amount to get what those bands may have that I decide to get.
3: A set amount for bands i've never heard but want to or pure random CD's that don't fit into the above categories.
I do the same for DVD's and books, works great. |

| Many pages or many scribbled notes of lists of bands I plan to check out on downloads, or youtube, reverbnation, facebook, etc I hate myspace music players,as many times songs hesitate during play, or stop/ cur off after 20 seconds.
If I really like it, or very curious even w/o hearing a note of music, will buy it.
Used to be discriminating too, if a band no longer existed, i would not bother, but not now. Makes no difference if they do not play live or have new releases. |

| I need lists to keep me focused on what I'm looking for. I used to be able to do this from memory but these days it's written down. I also include a price point that it sells for online. I'm cheap, so it comes down to the best deal I can find. I'm always paranoid about blindly buying something only to find it on amazon for .01 plus shipping later on. And I've never gotten used to the idea to just check it on my phone while I'm there. I'm very old school that way.
The bigger problem I have is buying stuff that I already own. I've pretty much come up with the rule that says "if I think I might have it, I probably do, so don't buy it".
Another problem is leaving stuff behind only to realize I should have gotten it.
And places that have listening stations are the worst for me. Hard to resist over-buying when you can give the stuff an actual listen. Though it has also saved me from some bad purchases too. |
