I guess they had to branch out but I hope they didn't totally dump the 80's PF sound as I love what they were doing. Great song though, these guys have so much talent.

The full-length version of this song is on Spotify, it's 2 minutes longer (most of the middle section was edited out for the radio edit) and you can definitely hear the Pink Floyd influence more in that part of the song, including a very Gilmour-inspired guitar solo.

That new tune is bad-ass!! Love it!! I pretty much dig everything I've heard from these guys, but if this is a new-ish direction they're gonna go with the music, I'm cool with that too. Bring on the new album!

Here is another new track "The Depth of Self-Delusion". Really good song, beautifully arranged, I like the predominant use of acoustic guitar. The very ending of the track from about 6:19 onward has a similar vibe to some of Steven Wilson's solo material from the last couple years.

Based on the songs I've heard so far I would say this will be a likely early contender for the best of 2013 list.

I've heard it on youtube, easily their best album. As long as people expect "prog rock" and not "prog metal" they will love it.

Based on what you listen to I think you would absolutely LOVE them.

My favorites so far are the latest one, Rapid Eye Movement and Anno Domini High Defition. All of their previous albums are on Spotify.

I'll have to put them on Spotify this weekend...reading everyone's comments makes me want to hear what's up...

I think I listen to these guys more than Porcupine Tree these days.

Can't wait for this new album. So much that I may even splurge and get the deluxe edition right off the bat instead of waiting for used copies to surface.

Ok, by waiting to release in the U.S. two weeks after almost everywhere else, don't the record companies realize people who would buy the physical copy might just decide to dl it?

It leaked over a month ago. The people who still buy albums will buy it, those who illegally download already have it.

I don't understand that reasoning either in this day and age, but I suppose it's just another old habit that record labels cling to. They're not known to welcome change in the way they do business. Razz

There are other factors to consider, like where the discs/LPs are manufactured. Often there will be both European and US pressing plants involved, their schedules don't always "sync up" so the release dates can vary widely between the countries.

I'm sure there is lotsa other factors involved. My point was, you'd think by now they would do things to ensure the release dates match up to maybe curb the downloading, even a little bit. It's not like a day or 2. 2 weeks is a pretty huge gap.

But like I said, the record labels aren't known for change. Or learning from past mistakes. Oh well. I can wait it out for this new Riverside album.

No matter how well you try to sync up the releases the albums will always leak. The new Steven Wilson solo album leaked 60 days prior to the release date.

I just read something about Dave Grohl and he was saying how hard it was to keep the Paul McCartney/Nirvana recording secret, both working in the studio and then when they performed it live at that benefit concert. He said it's damn near impossible to "surprise" the general public anymore.
