For tonight's enjoyment I have some very hoppy Swedish lager called Pistonhead. As most lagers, it's not very aromatic, but it has a nice bitterness and a bit of fruitiness to it. I like the fact it has a lot of hops. Normally I don't enjoy lagers that much though.

It has a cool skull logo too.

Cool label. Doesn't sound like something I'd like though.

I second the cool label part, although it's weird to see a lager with it. Even the name screams IPA, stout, etc. style beer, not lager at all.

Ya know, a few weeks ago I'd have gone "Ewwwwww" to this idea. But lately I've been discovering Belgian style ales and their inherent "fruitiness" from Belgian hops so the fruitiness doesn't turn me off as much as it once did. Plus I just tried a blueberry oatmeal stout so this isn't much weirder than that.

I had one of those blueberries once, good stuff. Also a hemp one. This looks far out though, interesting process.

I had a local hemp beer here too. It was OK but not something I'd buy again.

I just checked the "Fishfinder" and this wine/beer hybrid isn't even in my state. Too bad because I'd have given it a shot.

Got 2 free cases of Toohey's Extra Dry @ Christmas time from some of my work suppliers. Was some good stuff! Really smooth, and easy to hammer them down, as you don't feel bloated and full after only downing 6 or 7.

I seem to remember seeing those Piston Head lagers at the boarder shop last saturday - they were trying to get rid of them, selling a box of 24 cans (33 cl) for about 7.5 dollars, so I'm guessing we danes don't appreciate them so much Laughing

I just have to write something here, as i live next to munich, which is basically the 'capital of beer'. We have a lot of breweries in bavaria and in munich. I guess most people know the Oktoberfest (or "Beer Fest" as it's also called) that is evey year here...people from all over the world come to get drunk on overpriced beer Laughing very hard

Anyway i just destroyed 6 bottles (3 liters) of what is in my oppinion the best beer in the world (called Tegernsee Spezial) and i feel great \'arry \'eadbanger

Got any specifics on that beer? What style is it? (lager, pilsner, ale, etc). I'm envious; Europeans have REAL beer widely available. Here in the US, unless you like the crap that the big companies like Anheuser Busch or Coor/MIller produce, you have to scout out the local microbrews in your particular state.

Well Tegernseer Spezial is a stronger version of their normal Lager (called "Helles" in Germany). I doubt it's available in the USA as it is a popular but small regional brewery that sells mostly around southern bavaria, it's even hard to get in Munich.
Though i heard that there are some import shops in the USA that import all kinds of beer and you can even find Augustiner (munich brewery) there. If you stumble upon Augustiner (Helles or Edelstoff (a stronger, more bitter variant) buy it. It's my second favourite beer and really good.

I drank quite a few different american beers and i think it's funny that the breweries that were once founded by german immigrants (like Budweiser or Miller) are awful, while there are now some small breweries that really create some good stuff (i like Founder's)

You can get Founders over there????

You're totally correct, the breweries orginally founded by Europeans here now completely suck. But the microbrews in the US are really taking off now.

Sadly not, i can get all kinds of beer (even chinese and african) but Founder's seem to be too small and unknown. I know it because i've been several times to Detroit because of Hockey and i really like this beer.

That's a shame. Microbrews are really taking off here in the States yet all the rest of the world knows of our beer is swill like Budweiser. Pathetic.

Some of the stuff I'm drinking these days has a higher alcohol content than wine and actually gets better if you age it. I actually have a "beer cellar" in my basement where I'm aging beers until next year. Yet the world knows the US for Budweiser. Pisses me off...

That would piss me off too... but then again we Canadians have our own versions of that stuff like Kokanee and Molson. Blech sick

One of our bigger players here in Canada though, Sleemans, puts out some pretty good stuff that's readily available.

Sure do! And lately I've been branching out into Belgian-style ales.

Is there such a thing as a good lager?.......... just kidding

I'm no expert in lagers and don't plan on being in the near future, and the only only ones I can tolerate are the darker bocks like Sam Adams Double Bock. Other than that, if I'm in the mood and the weather is right, a nice cold Pilsner Urquell or a Czechvar will do fine. I'm kinda jealous you can drink Yuengling, would love to have one of their ales just to see if it's any good.

My new favorite. Not only is it complex and tasty, it's also more economical than a lot of the "new" beers I've been getting. 6.99 for a 750ml bottle. And a cool label. It's part of my new favorite beer style: Belgian Style Dark Ale.

It's not very hoppy in the IPA sense but very hoppy in the Belgian fruity hop taste. You might like this one GN.

You like oatmeal stouts? There's an English made one called Samuel Smith that is great.

Just had that a couple weeks ago. You're right, Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout is delicious.

Didn't like their Russian Imperial Stout though; I thought that tasted like turpentine.

I've discovered I'm really picky with RIMPs. One I really like is North Coast's "Old Rasputin".
