Now he really doesn't like them much... lol!
What a poseur!

He still likes Linkin Park, some Hoobastank and doesn't even remember Story Of The Year...but he has grown to dislike POD...haha!

I have one Story Of The Year track in my playlist.

I pulled it from a compilation once. Not sure what their other stuff is like but I love this song!

I had the Fundamentals album back in '99 when it came out. I was still a teenager and enjoyed it back then. In 2001 when Satellite was going to come out, they were going to have an in-store signing at the Tower Records near my college. The problem was that the date of release of the album and signing was on September 11. Needless to say, I woke up that morning in a new world. Would have been cool to meet those guys though.

I don't own any P.O.D. albums anymore, sold them off a few years ago. They are good at what they do and have been around at least 20 years, so props to them, but just not my thing anymore.

I just went to listen to the song. Surprised to hear Jamey Jasta on the track, considering the lyrical theme of the song. Whatever works.

For some reason P.O.D. were the second most popular of all those Nu Metal bands (behind those horrible Linkin Park) during the popularity of the music here (2000-2003). Youth of the Nation and Alive were used for several TV shows and were big hits. You couldn't escape them (though i have to say between all that Alien Ant Farm, Papa Roach, Limp Bizkit and whatever other crap that was out there, Alive was at least a decent song)
And then in a matter of months, they went from playing in front of 12.000 people to 500 in a small club

I had to laugh, I sez "Please don't, but I like your style." Laughing very hard

I think that Justin's fifteen minutes are about up anyway. My niece has moved on to a new boy band called "One Direction" and from what my son tells me, most of the girls in his class have gotten over their "Bieber Fever" and are now into "One-D" (as they're known) as well.

Not surprising at all. When you're the "it" band for the moment according to the mainstream, larger proportion of people gravitate towards it. When they decide it's time to move to the next thing, people just follow the new trend. I've been guilty of this attitude many times myself in the past.

Eh. I don't buy it. POD still exists because they're clearly playing to more than 500 people.

They have ties to Christian rock. I thought that'd get them an automatic thumbs up on this board.

Never owned an album but I like some of their past singles. I don't like this new song though.

They're a solid band. Their early albums aren't too great, but it's all been quality since The Fundamental Elements Of Southtown.

I have video footage of me and Run DMZ doing "Southtown" in Korea. It was a hit for us. Haha.

Christian bands can suck just as easily as non-Christian ones. Very Happy

I've heard One Direction. They're horrid. And if the "boy band" thing is starting to make a comeback, then that's wrong on so many levels. The boy band era was the worst era of music in history by far.

Then again, one thing I always thought was weird about the whole boy band thing was that there was New Kids on the Block (the first and worst boy band), then several years later Backstreet Boys (the first New Kids on the Block clones, or at least the first to become megastars) came out. (I remember my friend Tyler once said the first time he heard Backstreet Boys, he thought it WAS New Kids on the Block.)

You'd think that after NKOTB became megastars the movement would be born. But no, there was a gap of quite some time instead. Kind of odd. Then after Backstreet Boys copied New Kids on the Block became megastars, the whole boy band boom happened and got out of hand.

I also remember one guy online said years ago on 'N Sync, "Why are these guys popular in a world where people STILL make fun of New Kids on the Block? Strange world we live in."

Dude, ever heard of The Monkees, The Jackson 5, The Beatles? All boy bands.

There has always been and there always will be boy bands. There was never a gap of any time. And why anyone—especially any adult—would complain about groups like this is beyond me.

I never considered the Beatles a boy band, granted they appealed to young girls and they were marked to both the teeny bopper set and rock fans, but soon afterward it was clear these guys were no boy band or manufactured product like Backstreet Boys and even the Baycity Rollers were.

I guess the Monkees could be considered a boy band, but these guys rebelled against that image and took creative control of their career, granted soon after their career started dive bombing, they did not see themselves as boy band.

I can see what Eyesore means, but I lean closer to what manny says. Even in the early days,

Anyways, I was referring to what the general definition of a "boy band" is.

I've always wondered if a band who looked like One Direction sounded like Havok if all the young girls who listen to One Direction would start listening to bands like Havok. Or if they'd still like One Direction if the band members looked like Kirk Windstein or Messiah Marcolin.

The Monkees were DEFINATELY a manufactured boy band. They were assembled strictly for their looks for the tv show. Musical talent wasn't a consideration.

I've heard the argument for and against the Beatles/boy band comparrisons. I side with those that say they were not. They were a band, playing dingy clubs in Germany long before Brian Epstein got a hold of them. Sure, he cleaned 'em up for presentation purposes, but they were already assembled and earning their way (albeit poorly) as working musicians.

Agree on The Monkees. My take on the The Beatles where the first of the rock 'Boy Bands', but they quickly took control of their career and successfully moved away from being a boy band. Yes, they were already working as real musicians, but the record execs marketed and manufactured them as a boy band. They were able to take their success and take back their careers from the suits.

I do not dispute your point regarding the Monkees, I am just saying that they at some point took control of their career, in their case to quote Mickey Dolenz, 'Boris Karloff became Frankstein"

I'm sure there are, but it can't be the same amount as when they were at the height of their fame and constantly on MTV (TRL) more than a decade ago. They came out at the right time when their style of music was popular over the airwaves, and I give them props for still sticking to their guns, but ShadowAngel makes a valid point.
