I just hope that the recent news of it being R-Rated are true. I don't want PG-13 Kiddycrap

It has officially been rated R.

I remember Chuck Norris requested his script be changed, as he was uncomfortable with some of the dialogue. A bit odd, as most of Chuck's action movies were rated R, and he did appear in several movies with f-bombs in the past, including films where he was the one using them himself. I have no idea how many f-bombs will be used in the script otherwise, but I think it's safe to say none will come from Chuck.

Since that time Chuck became a Christian so that has something to do with it. I don't care though, as I find most cuss words unnessesary to my enjoyment of a movie (too much can even be a turn off).
Interesting, my dad's a Christian also, but he swears all the time. So I don't mind a lot of swearing in films, (though I will admit it is sometimes unnecessary).

I cuss all the time too, but it's not a good trait for a Christian to have (or anyone for that matter).

I know Chuck is a religious, practicing Christian. I'm not sure of the exact time he became one, but he probably at least wasn't a Christian (or at least not a practicing Christian) at the time he was starring in R-rated movies, hence he didn't have much of a problem. That's why I gathered he was uncomfortable using f-bombs in movies now.

They're already talking about doing a third one and the producer wants Clint Eastwood, Harrison Ford (good luck on both of those), Wesley Snipes (probably workable), and...Nicholas Cage?

Saw it yesterday and liked it. It was exactly what I wanted it to be - a modern take on 80s action films. Explosions, gunplay, action and Chuck Norris!

Due to weak competition at the box office, The Expendables 2 held onto the #1 spot for the second weekend in a row.

Before anyone celebrates the return of testosterone cinema though, it's worth noting that the film has brought in $52 Million in 2 weeks, about 10 million less than the first film...and that doesn't make much of a dent in it's over $100 million budget.

It doesn't seem to be doing as well as the first - I wonder how the international grosses are? That often helps the studios make $$$ these days (see Battleship turning a profit due to the international grosses)

You'd be surprised though, a film essentially has to make 2.5x it's budget to be considered profitable in Hollywood. Battleship is definitely considered a flop even though it did manage to cover the original production cost.

The x factor here is that duplication, distribution, advertising isn't included in production cost and big budget Hollywood films can end up spending 30 to 40 million dollars in promotion (Disney spent over $100 million in advertising for mega-flop John Carter), so that's another large chunk of change the film has to make back at the box office.

Here's a little look at "Hollywood Accounting".

$20 million of which used CGI to make Stallone look human.

I don't care about box office sales. If I enjoy a movie (which I did with this-and John Carter to a lesser extent), that's all that matters.

I really enjoyed John Carter. It was an old school action-adventure that was decently plotted and well paced. It was a fun movie.

Don't get me wrong, the amount of money a film brings in is no measurement of it's worth...but it does have a significant impact on more films along the same lines being produced.

John Carter wasn't just a flop, it was a complete and utter disaster for Disney. The film cost $250 million to produce, plus another $100 million in promotion.

It made $73 million!

Many people involved with the production were fired.

The lackluster business Expendables 2 is doing doesn't fare well for there being an Expendables 3. If "The Last Stand" and "Bullet In The Head" perform poorly, it could be the death knell of the "retro 80s action film" all over again.

Keep an eye out for uber-hottie Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia Chase from Buffy & Angel) in a cameo.
