No.

Hell no! I like both bands but they are very distinct from one another.

Talking about essential prog metal:

There is an old method for determining something like this. Listen to both bands and make up your own mind.

I'm not really too bothered whether a band might be a clone of another or not. As long as they write good songs, I don't really care if their sound happens to be completely derivative of someone else.

I'm with you on that. I am a big Helloween fan and I enjoy several Helloween clones. My favorite genre is Melodic Hard Rock/AOR. Many of the bands/artists have the same sound but I enjoy it all.

Same here.

I'll never understand the people that go, "If I wanted AC/DC, I'd go listen to AC/DC." Well, what if AC/DC released whatever particular album they're talking about? Would they like it then? Makes no sense. Something is either enjoyable or it isn't. I'll take clone bands releasing quality music any day.

Absolutely!

That's why I'd rather listen to "clone" bands like LETHAL, SACRED WARRIOR, POWER OF OMENS, SCREAMER, EN FORCE, etc. over that new QUEENSRYCHE album. Better songs!

Well, the new Queensryche album isn't even close to the same sound. Hard to compare. But I get what you're saying. En Force is great, though. Someone like Stormspell needs to re-release that demo on CD!

EDIT: Never mind. Looks like Divebomb just did.

and Enforce is quite good.

I dont mind clone bands because, in most cases, they do bring their own twist.

Exactly, there are few true clone bands.

So I am new with FLYIN COLORS and am rediscovering TRANSATLANTIC. The new video for the upcoming album of flying colors came out today. Any tought about it? For the potential the band has, it is a let down, but then again maybe the rest of the album is diferent

If you like really complex instrumental progressive metal/math rock then the new Valerian Swing may be of interest. They released the album for free, available here:

thanks S.D I bookmark it.

Im getting into transatlantic. Somehow i never gave the band a change, I can really say if the band was from the 70's then transatlantic could be considered one of the best prog rock bands ever. But i don't know how popular they are on the metal scene. at least none of my friends that i know of is into transatlantic

i tinhk its fantastic. A lot of folks hated the first one because lack of proginess (although i love it) but this one should receive a better reception.

You are right, the lack of prog is the downfall but the song is really well played and catchy. We have to give them credit for going out of their comfort zone and play something different

I guess I am more open minded now, thats why I can enjoy this band. I bet that was an amazing prog-show, I have seen some concert footage and they play live really good

i JUST FOUND OUT THAT "STEEL PROPHET" RELEASED AN ALBUM ON JULY THIS YEAR. I ONLY HAVE "DARK HALLUSINATIONS", "MESSIAH", AND "GENESIS". DOES ANYONE HAS INFO ABOUT THIS BAND, REGARDING WHERE HAVE THEY BEEN ALL THESE YEARS, HAVE THEY GONE TO BIG FESTS LIKE WAKEN, PROGPOWER, AND HOW POPULAR THEY ARE? what are their best albums?

All i can say about this new song, is that after a couple of spins, it started to remind me of the other albums from the band. Their new single is really good, and i am probably going to pic the album out.

Steel Prophet is a power metal band, not prog-metal.

Anyway, not sure what their best album is, as I only have Beware, Genesis, and Messiah, but I dig them.

I think FC has a lot of talent and are not afraid to play music that sounds good, and not be pigeonholed into being prog.
