Amazing performance of "It Serves Me Right To Suffer" by John Lee Hooker, filmed in 1969.

I dig me some John Lee Hooker

The Hooker n Heat stuff is excelent as well !

Thanks for posting that Shawn.

BTW, have you seen the series put out by Experience Hendrix showcasing the European TV shows that were american blues artists. The sets were like Hee Haw (no kidding) The performances are top shelf stuff.

The American Folk Blues Festival! All of the dvds are on youtube. I watched a couple of them last month, and I agree it's awesome. Here's a clip of my favorite song from that series. Some of the best harmonica blues I've heard in a while, especially the parts played by Big Walter

Hooker 'n' Heat is a killer album, Hooker had such a killer voice and his guitar style has always fascinated me. I prolly have over 80 albums by him.

I just bought a 10CD collection of John Lee Hooker songs. It was only $14.99, brand new! Crazy good deal.

You now need the "missing link" between Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Robin Trower. The best bang for your buck is this killer 3-CD set that contains his first 5 albums collected into one very nicely remastered set. You can find used copies for around $14 on Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/Tale-Untold-Chrysalis-Years-1973-1976/dp/B003OPUZYO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1347680419&sr=8-1&keywords=robin+trower+a+tale+untold

There is also a second volume that picks up where that set leaves off.

Robin is easily one of my favorite blues/rock guitarists of all-time.

Alex.....

to elaborate more on what Shawn stated, the gap between Hendrix and SRV. My suggestions is Roy Buchanan and Rory Gallagher. Also if you can dig up Fleedwood Mac-The Complete Blue Horizon Sessions (6 disc box set)

You are missing one of the most important guitarist for the advent of rock 'n' roll; T-Bone Walker. He was the primary influence on Chuck Berry.

Peter Green era and early Free are great British Blues and I'd also recommend:

Buddy Guy- start with 'Sweet Tea' or 'Stone Crazy'
Otis Rush
Big Bill Broonzy
Mississippi John Hurt
Luther Allison- start with 'Bad News Is Coming'
Junior Wells
Sonny Boy Williams
Son House
Magic Sam
Earl Hooker
Albert Collins
Freddie King
Son Seals
Reverend Gary Davis
Robert Cray (I prefer his 1999 to current era).
Memphis Slim

I could go on forever and more in depth on the ones I mentioned and the ones posted by others but I think you have your hands full already...good luck!

I'd also add Gatemouth Brown, he's another essential.

No mention of Otis Taylor or Seasick Steve?

Brilliant stuff.

And these guys are relatively new, definitely not traditional in any way, but some of you guys might dig them. I do.

Never heard of him, but my local paper gave a glowing review of this upcoming album.

He's a bit of a hybrid, firmly rooted in blues but strays to other genres as well. The biggest hurdle for most hardened blues fans would be when he leans toward R&B a bit. He's great, though.

I should mention I have at least one album from all of these artists except for the Reverend, and I was lucky enough to meet Buddy Guy and have him sign a few of his albums once. He was very gracious.
