This isn't bad. Not great either. Just exists.

I can't really imagine ever buying a new Slayer album again. There have certainly been good tunes on all of their releases, but the last one that I think is just good straight through was Diabolus. I will listen on Spotify if it's there, though.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with it, in fact it's pretty good. I just have no desire to own it, even as a free download, which probably says more about where my head is at rather than the song. Even if the new record is great, I just think that I have enough Slayer to scratch that itch when needed.

Totally disagree. Name a Terry Date produced album that doesn't have a good guitar sound.

I was a skeptic about them continuing but I am starting to think this will be a good one.

Kerry King admits working without Hanneman was “weird” - but they have 6 tracks for the future

Slayer have completed work on their 11th album – and they already have six tracks for their 12th, Kerry King has revealed.

New track:

Lame - it sounds like a crappy b-side from Diabolus In Musica.

Sounds f*cking awesome to me. HEAVY! You can hear the bass! Recording sounds above average for recent Slayer albums. I really wasn't interested in post-Hanneman Slayer, but if this song is any indication then I officially change my mind.

I totally dig it...and I also dig Diabolus In Musica.

At least somebody likes it. Of course, the album could be great for all I know. I was hoping for more Holt.

Holt only recorded solos for the album (Kerry plays everything else) and since this song doesn't have a solo we'll have to wait to hear a different track to find out what his contributions will sound like.

The new song goes nowhere IMO. I thought it might be one of those "build up" type songs that gets intense with a crazy solo at the end. It just plodded along and went nowhere... It actually feels incomplete.

Not bad. I thought there would be a solo in there somewhere. I'm sure there are better things to come.

When you got a guy like Gary Holt in the band, you should utilize his skill. Unfortunately, this might end up like when Tommy from Coroner joined Kreator. A massively great player not being utilized properly! I guess I'll wait to hear the full album and see what happens. At least I know the production is top notch with Terry Date.

Yea, I gotta agree with you on that one. Starts out ok. It feels like it's building up to something. Then doesn't. Around the 3:30 mark, it needs one of those squealing, insanely fast solos. "Incomplete" sounds right on the money.

Well I think Kerry is releasing these lackluster songs on purpose, to throw us off! Smile
Hopefully when the actual album comes out, it will blow us away! We'll have to wait and see...

With that said, I do not think they will ever reach the level of quality they had in the late 80s with Hanneman and Lombardo. Those guys were very important to the Slayer sound and always will be!

I'll give 'em the benefit of the doubt. If they wanted to do the unexpected on that song, that's fine. They can mix things up some. It's Slayer, so I know I'll pick it up when it comes out anyway. I'm not writing them off just for that lone single.

I dig DiM too (at least some of it).

I think the new track is OK.  I agree that it doesn't really go anywhere.  "Implode" was far better than this.

I don't think Holt is gonna make or break a SLAYER album.  I doubt he even is gonna solo at a high level on this stuff.  It's probably all ad-lib filler.

I don't want Holt to add EXODUS-sounding riffs to SLAYER.  Save it for your own band (which frankly needs all the good ones it can get anyway).

I have no problem with them writing a lot of slower songs though, as long as they are engaging.  Not every SLAYER song needs to be fast to be good.

I think Holt is used about as well as he should be in this band.  But Tommy definitely needed A LOT more opportunities to solo and riff away in KREATOR!

I could care less whether a song has a guitar solo at this juncture.  If it does, great, if it doesn't, that's fine too.  The idea that every heavy metal song has to have a guitar solo is frankly...silly.

I disagree that song feels incomplete or "doesn't go anywhere".  I like the slow, menacing nature of this track and the faster section at the end works just fine.  I'm sure on the actual album there will be another blindingly fast tune right after it.

I also think this track is much better than Implode.

I have nothing against bands that don't solo, being that I'm a big Crowbar fan. But in Slayer's case, I do want to hear some kind of whammy dives or crazy noodling somewhere in the song.

For a song like this, Kerry could have just hired Scott Ian. It must be hard for Gary, who is known for throwing down solos all the time, to just sit back and dumb down his style.

What on earth are you talking about? How is he dumbing down his style if he doesn't even play on the track? And what the hell does Scott Ian have to do with anything?

Guitarists don't get blue balls from not playing a solo...Oh man, Kerry, you gotta let me bust one out before I soil my boxers!"
