It tasted like what it was.   It had the coffee and chocolate notes of an imperial stout along with the fruitiness of a farmhouse ale.  I'm not sure it totally worked but it was different.

Hmm, well, i'm not a huge fan of the farmhouse taste usually but i'd try it.

Yeah I don't typically get into farmhouse ales either but between the label on this one and the fact that it was combined with an imperial stout I had to give it a shot.  Probably not something I'll get again though.

Been low on funds and time to get over to my BevMo, so I surrendered and got the Sam Adams crate from Costco--an annual tradition I was going to skip this year. You know, there is some great shit in there. I don't know why I forget how good Fizzweg's [sp] Ale is every year. Yum.

Yeah, I wish that Fezziwig ale was available in a six pk .by itself.  And even though I detest IPAs that Juniper IPA that's in that pack isn't half bad.  I wish they hadn't ruined the Chocolate Bock by adding cherry this year though

Agreed; it's subtle enough to still be drinkable, but what a way to spoil a favorite.

Ugh. Do not add fruit to beer. No cherry, apple, pumpkin, rutabaga or whatever. Leave that junk for the cooler crowd.
Imho of course.

I agree with the exception of pumpkin.  I love pumpkin beers.  But other than that I'm not into fruit beers at all.

It's really a shame in the case of that Sam Adams Chocolate Bock because that beer was outstanding. It's still decent but the cherry just ruins it for me when I consider what it used to be.

Pumpking is the most tolerable i've found but still, I see no need.

The last couple of years I've found Pumpking to be one of the least drinkable pumpkin beers. It's been too heavy on the pumpkin to the point it seems like I'm drinking V8. I much prefer the Schlafly version but even that one has paled lately compared to Schlafly's Christmas Ale.

It's awesome!

It's Founders Dirty Bastard scotch ale aged in bourbon barrels. I picked up 2 more cases this weekend because this stuff disappears fast - like in a week. I actually phoned my favorite store and asked them to earmark the 2 cases for me. It's so mellow given its 10.2 ABV.

Yup!  And it looks like it's going to be really difficult to acquire this year.  Fortunately, one of my "beer minions" at work received an email from a tiny place in Clayton, MO stating that they had some.  When he got there they only had 4 cases; and I paid for one of 'em.

There's a new craft beer shop up here that just opened in the last couple of months......I'll have to check and see if they have some.

Better move fast; this is one of Southern Tier's more popular seasonal releases and if you score some you'll see why.

EDIT:  Tasting this year's version of "Choklat" for the first time and it's delicious again!   Another example of a "dessert beer". If you find some, be careful; this stuff is 10% ABV but you'll never know it.

I have a couple weeks off so I may be perusing for something along that style. Any others you know of that are more accessible?

Samuel Smith has a chocolate stout that's quite tasty.

Rogue has a double chocolate stout too. I don't think it's great but it's good.

Enjoying the last one of these from my stash:
