Russell Johnson, the Professor on 'Gilligan's Island,' dead at 89

Russell Johnson, who played the professor on "Gilligan's Island," died Thursday morning, his agent confirmed to TheWrap. He was 89.

Johnson died at his home in Washington state of natural causes, his agent, Michael Eisenstadt said.

Dawn Wells (Mary Ann) and Tina Louise (Ginger) are the last 2 surviving castaways from 'Gilligan's Island'.

So many great childhood memories are tied to that show for me. As corny and goofball as it was, it's still a classic.

I read that. Too bad but that was a nice full life he lead. I had not realized he was that old.

I wasn't as big of fan of Giligan's Island as others were, but the Professor was the one character that I really did like. He was like the sane rational one who somewhat grounded the show to seem more real and less goofy.

RIP

R.I.P. Professor!!

My wife and I watched a few "Gilligan's Island" reruns on TV Land over the weekend. Our kids looked at us rather strangely when the theme song started and we both sang along with every word. Laughing very hard

While of course I know him from Gilligan's Island, I have a more fond memory of him because of his role in the Roger Corman classic, Attack of The Crab Monsters.
