So...yeah, her voice is amazing and her music is emotionally investing as I don't know what. Not only that, she is sexy as hell. My favorite albums by this woman would be Post, Homogenic, and Vespertine.

I'll second Vespertine. That, for my money, is the album that holds up from start to finish. The others all have those "Bjork moments" where she's trying to get too arty for her own good and the music just doesn't hold up the concept, at least to me.

I think Medulla comes close second, but I'm honestly mostly floored by the "gimmick" of every sound being some processed human voice or other. Having Robert Wyatt AND Mike Patton on there are just icing on the cake.

My love of Bjork is well known around here. I don't really understand how she can be too arty, that's pretty much what she does. Second Vespertine, it really is fantastic as is Homogenic, but I like all of it. Recently been getting into Biophilia and Selmasongs.

Army of Me IS my favorite song by her, It was also on the Tank Girl Soundtrack which is how I came about it. I've heard some of her stuff but its been hit or miss. Though Army of Me is an awesome tune. I originally thought this was a cover but just did some research and nope she wrote it, a few years ago I head another version of this song done by someone else which is what led me to originally believe she covered it (erronously)

Great song

Why? Because I find her music boring? Or pretentious? I find plenty of music boring and pretentious. She, and her music, are also in the limelight on MTV/VH1 etc enough to be blamed for attention-whorism, just like a lot of metal musicians (Bach, Jericho etc).

I think only Depeche Mode or Nirvana can compete with her in these aspects.

And her looking like an eskimo is a neutral comment. I don't mind eskimos.

I hesitate to bring up the unholy names, but when you're going to compare Bjork to other confirmed attention whores - the Biebers', Cyrus', and I'd even go so far as to include Lady Gaga here - I have to offer a "Hold up a minute, dawg."

I don't think anyone would argue that Bjork is pretentious, in the same way that old Yes was pretentious and so on. It's conceptual art... Sometimes a little TOO conceptual, but the point still stands.

There's a huge difference between making a spectacle of yourself as part of an art piece and just grabbing headlines by being a trashy person or by wearing weird s**t to a public event independent of the art/music you're making.

I've gotta defend Bjork on this one - at least what she does is part and parcel of her ART and not simply being a histrionic who wasn't hugged enough by mommy/daddy.

And beside that, eskimos are hot. All those layers let the imagination run wild.  Laughing

I don't find her music boring or even pretentious, what I find it to be is original. It takes a couple of spins to take it all in, I am not opposed to joys of loud guitars and songs about babes ( I am a KISS fan after all) but I think her music is more then just backround noise, and it something you to live with for awhile to really get it.

I find most of Bjork's stuff (and I had the same problem with the Sugarcubes too) to be about 60 percent great with the other 40 percent a tough/challenging listen. Army Of Me is one hell of a song. I also think she has the coolest speaking voice.

It's a question of what you're after. I dig music where you can listen to it on the "surface" and still enjoy it, but where it kind of reveals depth the longer you live with it. Bjork sometimes nails that (Vespertine, natch), but a lot of the time, the surface doesn't make any sense, so you HAVE to dig in to it.

It's closer to trying to take in a symphony. Good luck doing that (and enjoying it) while balancing a checkbook or playing a video game.
