One of my favorite books. I loved it! Too bad the movie changed so much. I like the movie, but the book blows it away.

Do yourself a favor, read Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet.

The book is awesome! Thanks for the heads up, I'll ignore the movie.

OK, I don't really have a list, but I'll try to remember it.

Duma Key - Stephen King

Not bad.....but he's written this one before.

Beginning = The Dead Zone

Middle = It/Salem's Lot

End = Shawshank Redemption

more or less

Not kidding. It'll be one of the best books you'll ever read. Don't read the synopsis because you won't believe it can be a good book. The premise is basically this:

Dude wants to build a church.

Seriously. One of my best friends tried to get me to read this for years, and I always said no way. A book about a dude building a church? Pffft! Then one day I broke down. I could not stop reading it, man. And it's a big book, like 1,000 pages. I read it in a week, which is insane for me! And I didn't want it to end.

It's my favorite books of all-time. It blew me away. Nothing like Follet's regular stuff. He just released a bit of a sequel last year, or so, called World Without End. It takes place 200 years later, but in the same town. Not quite a sequel, but he references things from the first book. Not as good as Pillars, but still a great, fast read.

Thomas Harris. Good writer. :metal:

I finished Timeline. He kind of ran out of steam after about 300 pages and limps along to the ending. Several scenes had that "phoned in" feel to them, and some were flat out poorly written. Shame too, because the beginning was so riveting.

I'm halfway through The Gunslinger now for the 6th or 7th time, and I just picked up a short story collection from Hemingway that I'll probably browse in at the same time.

Both good stories - angles & demons is the better written of the two - parts of the da vinci code are poorly written, like something out of a harlequin novel

I liked both, but they're literally the same novel. The start EXACTLY the same, and then follow the same template throughout. Was it Angels & Demons with the airplane or helicopter part? Talk about ridiculous. Haha.

Either way, both are good, but highly overrated.

Eyesore and TallT - I highly recommend this one. Aztec - Gary Jennings.

Eyesore - it's one of those ones that for me was an infectious page turner keeping me up till 5:00 AM.

You've suggested that here before. And I forgot about it. Haha. There's a sequel or two as well, right?

Looks like there's a bunch of sequels. I just ordered Aztec through PaperbackSwap (another great site from the SwapaCD guys).

I bought When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops? by George Carlin recently. What I've read of it is pretty funny.

Blasphem - Douglas Preston (A Science - vs - God/Christians book that paints the average Christian as a loony - but beyond that it's a 1/2 decent reed Smile )

I think I'm also picking up from his writing that the author fancies himself an elite mind and indeed looks down on "religious" folk as mindless sheep.

I just started a book last night from the "Tom Clancy's Net Force" series. I'm about 100 pages in. Neat high-tech espionage stuff.

Nightshadows - William F. Nolan (Not very impressed....it's a collection of short stories. Not interesting. Very seriously now...Eyesore is a much better writer in my opinion. I read 4-5 stories and decided to put the thing down)

I really think that Ken should use Eye B. Sore as his writing name. In promo pictures he should wear a Herbert Kornfeld mask. He'd be the Buckethead of literature. Smile

I just realized that I never mentioned the TITLE of the book in question, haha. It's called "Springboard" if anybody cares. I'm about halfway thru it already.
