Bummer. Movie geeks and music nerds alike are in mourning today.

I always loved his work especially the Alien design, which has haunted me as a kid and sticks with me to this day.

Is it wrong that my first question on reading this was whether he willed that his body be turned into a sculpture?

I knew he was the artist for Alien and the Danzig covers but I didn't know he also did ELP's "Brain Salad Surgery" album cover too.  When I look at it now, it's pretty obvious it's Giger's work; his style is instantly recognizable.  RIP.

He certainly had a style all his own.

His artwork was also on covers of Celtic Frost, Triptykon and Carcass album covers. Amazing artist!

Reading the guy's wiki page, it sounds like his art began as a form of therapy for night terrors.

Considering the guy made it to 74 making art that was completely his and that he had veto power over its use...

Hey, rather than mourn, it may be time to raise a glass. Unless he was a miserable sod and we all missed out on that part, it sounds like he was living the dream as closely as any of us could hope to.

 cheers
