The life and career of the late great film critic Roger Ebert is the subject of this documentary, coming in July. Looks like a must-watch for me. I grew up reading Mr. Ebert's reviews in the newspaper and watching him on "At The Movies," I may not have always agreed with his opinions but I loved the way he wrote. Even when he was trashing a movie I cherished, I could never be angry with the guy.

His bravery and refusal to stop working even during his battle with the cancer that eventually took his life was inspiring as well.

I was a big fan of Mr Ebert as well, mostly through At The Movies. I would like to see this documentary too. Looks like it would be very interesting.

Does anyone remember what TV show/comedy or movie it was,
that had a spoof of Siskel and Ebert beating each other up when reviewing a  movie?

Was it this?

Gotta love the Carnosaur reference.  I used to love that flick.

For years I never missed At The Movies.

I'm looking forward to this. I always strongly suggest for people who think film criticism is a big joke to sample Ebert's writings. Not only was he a phenomenal writer, but his reviews eschew the fatal and untrue opinion that film criticism's only purpose it to say bad things about movies. Far from it. Film criticism is supposed to be an analysis of how a tapestry is woven together by exploiting its strengths and weaknesses from different vantage points. A good critic will call out a bad movie with intelligent methods, and call out a good movie in the same way, all with modest humor and wit. And a good critic should only point out the obvious flaws, not hunt them down. It's a good thing, a very f*cking good thing indeed. And Ebert did it all with sincerity and transcendence. I can't wait to see this. It was a troubling day when he passed, and his website is nothing more now than a reminder of how much I miss him.

Review by my man James Berardinelli is four stars, "One of the finest cinematic biographies of any post-World War 2 public figure."
