Just did 2 laps around my office campus - 2.28 miles in 33 minutes. Lately I'm averaging about fifteen minutes per mile.

Today I crushed my usual time per mile - It usually takes me between fourteen and fifteen minutes to do one mile, but today I did my first one in 13:49 ... might not sound like much, but for my fat a$$ it's an achievement. Go me! :cheese:

It amazes me when I think back on the days I would consume a large pepperoni, knowing nothing of caloric intake or saturated fat. SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY I DIDN'T STROKE OUT.

I've been reasonably fortunate that, aside from a bit of extra padding, my metabolism hasn't totally crashed.

At this point, I tend to think of cardio as the best go-to for exercise. Seems to do a lot more for keeping weight under control and to avoid precipitating public health emergencies and widespread panic when I take my shirt off.

When it comes to fitness though, I have to admit I'm more than a little clueless as to "ideals." BMI and usual standards of measure are crap in general, so relying on those is an invitation to an eating disorder. That's compounded by the fact that I was totally stringy, almost lanky in my teens and ended up bulking up in a muscular way via a string of very physical jobs. As a result, my mental image of "fit" for me is at 167 lbs and probably being just about able to touch my thumb to my middle finger if I wrapped my hand around my wrist. At this point, that's not attainable, but I'm not sure what a "new" fit would be either. Anyone else had to deal with that?

I quit (95%) eating junk, do 100 push ups a day, and walk 2-3 miles per day...5 days a week. I relax/splurge on weekends, but not a lot. I've lost 20 lbs since this time last year, gained a little muscle tone, and lost 3 inches on the waistline.

Any kind of workout is kind of weird in that it's a total drag to think about, but really exhilarating when you're doing it with a great feeling afterwards.

Eating food that is actually good for you? Considerably harder sell.  Laughing very hard

I must be doing something right cuz I lost eight pounds during the month of July...and aside from the walking I haven't made any radical changes to my diet/intake... I cut out soda and drink more water, that's about all.

Not necessarily. In the past whenever I worked out, I felt very much like taking a nap when it was over. In the case of running, the best part was when it was over. During that kind of exercise it was never exhilarating. The only thing I could think about during it was once I reached my destination, I could stop.

Considering that unhealthy things switch between good for you and bad for you (recent studies finding out saturated fat isn't as bad for you as initially thought, recent studies finding high sodium does not contribute to heart disease, studies finding out that too much sugar doesn't necessarily lead to diabetes, and many other examples) means they really don't know what they're talking about half the time. I use my dad's philosophy about eating: it's all in moderation. Having a cheeseburger everyday is not a wise decision. Having a cheeseburger once a week isn't going to kill you. Should I eat more fruits and vegetables, damn right I should. That doesn't mean I need to give up having a steak now and then.

I try eating "natural" , unprocessed foods. this means I donīt have to "give up" potatoes or corn, I just need not to eat them all day , thatīs it.

BTW I eat Low Carb cakes every day (no flour , no sugar , I have the recipe) and drink Zero carb soda as much as I desire ...

I'm too addicted to carbs to give them up. I do need to stop eating so much of it, but I will NEVER give it up. I do drink diet sodas, but that has more to do with dental reasons (artificial sugars don't damage enamel as bad as real sugar). I have quite the sweet tooth so I will never give sugar up. I try not to consume them as much as I used to but I still enjoy a dessert every night. Again, goes back to moderation.

I only eat "Low Carb" desserts now ... or some fruit. fruits have generally low glycemic index , and are packed with nutrients and antioxidants / phytochemicals ...

See, with people like you taking the reduced carbs leaving the rest of the carbs to rot, I need to consume them so they don't go to waste. Instead, they get to go to my waist. So you low carb people are to blame for my belly. Laughing

Now, if I ever start to look like that I will stop eating immediately. I'd go with the old prisoner diet (bread and water). I'm chubby but I can still bend at the knees, see my toes, walk for hours without getting winded, hate cold weather, walk and not waddle, and not have the worst body at the beach. Course even in high school where I was actually in shape, I didn't exactly have an impressive physique.
