I think LS was more talented, but 38 Special holds more memories for my youth.

Can't say I'm a fan of either, but I guess I'd go with Skynyrd by default. I know more of their songs because of a tape I owned eons ago.

I know .38 Special probably had a hit or 2 but I can't think of any off the top of my head.

As much as I dig Skynyrd, .38 Special was a big part of my youth.

Skynyrd for me. I do think "Caught Up In You" is a great song though.

I voted Skynyrd but for the record, my favorite .38 Special song is one no one ever talks about:

Why in the world did 38 Special have two drummers?

Neither...... Sorry, never could get into either band. And what's up with the two drummers in .38 Special???? They certainly didn't need two drummers for the music they are playing

IIRC Doobie Bros and Allman Bros had two drummers--just an added dimension for live work, I suppose. I recently saw The Eagles and some numbers had not only percussion but their touring drummer and Don on his own set--it was pretty intense. Not sure how .38 did it though.

Anyway, .38 since the song is better and, same here, they were a huge part of me growing up. Today I can't stand either band. I'd rather pick Summer Breeze, honestly. That's a cool song.

Well, I did recognize the ones you posted. I just couldn't name 'em. Any .38 Special I heard growing up was purely accidental.

I've never understood the need for 2 drummers in any band either. Seems like overkill, especially in bands like the Grateful Dead or the Allman Bros. where it's just jam-band music. You're telling me one guy couldn't handle it?

Can drummers harmonize? What's the point? Did they face-off in concert or something?

Lynyrd Skynyrd but I do like .38 Special, at least the early years.

The Doobie Brothers technically had 3 drummers, two guys playing traditional kits and another playing percussion. King Crimson currently has 3 drummers, Santana always toured with additional percussionists, many other instances through the years.

If you wanna hear the Doobies utilizing those drummers start this track around the 2:40 mark and listen to the way it builds until the end of the song.

Without the visual though, I wouldn't have picked up on it. I hear drums and I hear percussion (bongos or whatever), but if you didn't tell me that 2 drummers were playing, I wouldn't know the difference.

I'm not criticizing, just saying. Seeing them live might be cool, but listening to a record, I don't see the point of 2 drummers. Keeping the beat seems like it can be done with one guy and added percussion from another for flair. Like cowbells!!

Here's a list of rock bands with 2 drummers for anyone that cares...

Looks like they forgot .38 Special. Razz

It depends on the group and how it's arranged. Bands like Santana or War definitely need more than a single drummer because percussion is an intrinsic part of their sound.

I like both but like 38 better. Maybe like some of you, they were part of my youth, not Skynyrd. Skynyrd was my older brother's youth.

I voted Lynyrd Skynyrd. That Gold and Platinum double album was one of my earliest purchases. They were so much more than the songs you hear on the radio. I don't mind 38 special but never liked any of their stuff enough to want to get their albums.

I have absolutely no idea who 38 Special are! Embarassed

One of those bands whose music just didn't travel I guess.
