Full trailer below. I gotta say, I didn't give two shits about this until I saw the trailer. Some observations:

1. A lot of compositions and color schemes echo Cameron and Greenberg's unique style in T2.
2. None of the CG looks very excessive.
3. Looks like a reboot similar to JJ's Star Trek with all the rules being changed.
4. Not sure about all the famous lines being repeated. Feels clumsy.
5. Cool we got a T1000 again with similar effects.

It's still a stupid title and we get a most mismatched writing team, so my hopes are low. The director is experienced mostly in TV and helmed the Thor sequel, so it's anyone's guess how he'll handle it. And Arnold? I'm surprised to say I was happy to see him again.

Basically yeah, a rehash. Like the studio said, "okay we pissed everyone off with trying to do things different in the last two movies; let's just vomit all the best parts of the first two to make them happy."

Honestly, in the first 30s of the trailer I thought they were going for a complete remake.

Same here. Does this one fit in with Terminator 4 at all or is this a totally separate reality?

I haven't seen Salvation so I'm not sure. It looks like it could be both, gliding out of the plot of the former and then establishing its own.

I hated "T3" but I actually kinda liked 'Salvation."

This new trailer isn't doing much for me. Looks like an elaborate fan film.

I think that's the thing here. Cameron's greatest achievement with T2 is providing the ultimate closure to a film full of paradoxes, and it left me satisfied. When T3 was announced, even before Mostow was (mind-boggingly) announced as director, I just shrugged. I had no more interest in the furthering of a great story that was already wrapped up so neatly.

Well, you didn't miss anything. It was very forgettable, but did have some cool scenes and a completely CGI'd Arnold. They plot was very muddled and the third act was crap. Apparently the studio changed the third act at the last minute. Although, what do you expect from something directed by McG?

IMDb sez that this flick's budget was $170 million. Seriously? Then why does the trailer look like a DTV P.O.S.?

So is this movie set in 1984? Gun nerd note - the Desert Eagle pistol that Sarah Connor uses to shoot that LMG guy in the eye with didn't exist until 1985. I guess you can do whatever you want with time travel though.

Thanks corplhicks ! Excellent news.
I like all the Terminator movies and the TV series was great too.
I wished they continued the Sarah Connor Chronicles from TV into the movies, or another network bought the rights.

The trailer looks much better than I was expecting and surprised me - enough in the trailer to make me at least want to watch the Blu Ray, if not see it in the theater.

T3 was mildly entertaining - not a great movie, but just enough to pass the time. Never saw nor have any desire to see Salvation.

^^ what S.D. sez. I honestly wasn't expecting much at all from "Salvation," but I was pleasantly surprised by it.

Arnold posted a funny video on instagram today about this. I was so disappointed with the last two that I didn't even care to find this trailer. I'll still end up going to see it.

I've heard almost unanimously that the director's cut of Salvation is the only one worth watching. I'm a skeptic because of McG (man, what a hip name!), but I hear he broke his mold this time around. I need to check it out at some point.

My interest is akin to my love of the first two Alien movies--there was no need to go any further. But they did, and it made a mess of things. When a story's been choked for completion's sake, why force it back open? I'm sure there are exceptions, but it seems to make for a very contrived, and wasted, effort. Yet I still saw the remaining Alien films (even the horrible Resurrection--that was just a cruel joke, Fox) out of curiosity. Even if it kills the cat, I'll probably be watching Salvation and Genisys (I don't know how much longer I can keep typing that out) as well.

The director's cut of Salvation is better, but I also liked the theatrical version. McG has gotten a lot better over the years, he's actually got some comic timing in addition to the action sequence chops.

Is it worth adding to my Netflix queue?

I don't see why not. I just checked Amazon and the director's cut on blu-ray is only $5.99.

I hate to say it, but I've only ever watched T2 all the way though properly. It says a lot about the other movies (I know I'm totally missing the T1 experience).

T1's a fun ride and worth checking out. It had the budget of a monthly grocery bill but the amount of creativity and inspiration within is amazing.

I revisited T2 again recently--I remember as a kid watching my laserdisc copy of the director's cut about once a week--and it still packs an aesthetic punch. I love the photography in that movie, and how Cameron doesn't allow the camera too much frill by employing only static shots and slow dollies/cranes. The editing was the key thing in moving those action sequences along. And throw in the blue-gray color schemes, the heavy red contrasts in other shots--it just looks damn cool.

However, I never realized as a kid how much the acting is just lacking. Linda Hamilton leaves a lot to be desired. She really tries hard, but fails to come across in that macho-bitch-kickin'-ass kind of framework. Ed Furlong also can be a bit annoying in spots. I really enjoyed Joe Morton's work there, though, and Robert Patrick was pitch-perfect for the villain spot.

I loved the first two Terminator flicks, tho I've always preferred the original. Even with a budget of six bucks and a broken cracker, Cameron still made something absolutely amazing.

Side note, I will never forget watching the first film on HBO with my father when I was about fifteen. Dad was not a sci-fi fan, and he simply could not wrap his head around the time travel plot at all. I tried to to explain it to him as best I could but he just wasn't getting it ("Who's this girl again? Why does Arnold want to kill her? Wait, Arnold's a robot?") so eventually I gave up and said "F*ck it, just watch all the stuff gettin' blown up, willya?" Laughing very hard

I saw "T2" in the theater when it came out, loved it as well, but once we got to the years-too-late "T3" it just seemed unnecessary.

I think that's where I'm at too. The entire story was told in the first two films. Anything beyond that is just jackin' off.

I think the reason I liked Salvation is the entire film takes place in the post-apocolyptic future, which at least makes it different than the other films.

I loved the first 2 Terminator films. The third was totally unnecessary and I didn't think it was that good. I have never seen Salvation (mainly due to total loss of interest in the series) and feel the same about this new one.
