Is anyone here into handheld gaming? I find that I spend most of my time on DS or PSP because of the fact that our house is messy, and most of the rooms feel cramped and awkward for playing console games that majority of the time. At most I spend maybe like 20 minutes at most on a single game either in my room or in one of the dens (which used to be a garage years ago). I can spend a good 2+ hours at once for the handhelds though. Anyone here an active handheld gamer either on mobile platforms or any of the Sony and Nintendo systems?

I very occasionally break out my PSP. I only have 2 games for it (both RPGs), though. Seeing as I own 3 consoles and about 150 games, I don't lack for things to play (or time to invest).

I recently got a MicroSD to Pro-Duo adapter for my soft-modded PSP and used my 32gb card to load up a bunch of games. I got some for my nephew when he comes over (mostly sports) and for me, mostly JRPGs. I have:

Astonishia Story
Brooktown High
Crimson Gem Saga
Disgaea
Final Fantasy I & II
Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions
Jeanne D'Arc
Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep
Lemmings
Mana Khemia: Student Alliance
Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X
Mega Man: Powered Up
Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite
Phantom Brave: The Hermuda Triangle
PopoloCrois
Tactics Ogre

Seems like a dream come true. This system was the quintessential JRPG powerhouse towards the end of its life. It's quality-over-quantity library means it really held up on its own. Besides the DS, this is one of my all-time favorite handhelds, and much more than even GBA (which I was very partial to, to be honest). I also got into mobile/tablet gaming thanks to Puzzle & Dragons and am awaiting my pre-order for the new $50 Amazin Fire tablet.

And to add to that, some games are arriving at retail for the original PSP in the next few months in Japan, though they're mostly visual novels that won't be getting localized. The system is still kicking there and continues to have a much larger install-base than the current ill-fated Vita.

I've been tempted to pick up a 3DS because I've been a huge Kirby fan since I was a kid and half of his games only come out on whatever the current Nintendo handheld is. Still, I am a bit gun shy just because my nostalgic attempt to pick up the original Gameboy again revealed to me that my eyes just can't track those tiny screens anymore.

Weird thing is, it's not even that I can't see it - my eyesight is still pretty solid - but I have a crap time trying to track these tiny things moving around at high speeds on the screen. Not so much fun.

Then again, a newer system would doubtless have a better display than the old Gameboy brick, so...

Some action games on PSP make my eyes strain badly. Ape Escape, Gradius Collection, and some others are responsible. Playing shooters like Twinbee and Star Soldier was even worse, since they were playing in a small frame due to their original resolutions.

I actually deleted all those PSP games I loaded onto my system that I mentioned because I don't have passion or dedication for most games these days. I need something peaceful and mellow with a lot to do but not to feel pulled along by a leash. A lot of games are just not rewarding as they used to be.

However, I am tempted to get a 3DS just for Animal Crossing: New Leaf. I am really enjoying the one on the original DS (and the GC version was the first game I ever had for the Cube). I heard the 3DS one is by far one of the best entries in the series.

I used a PSP primarily as an MP3 player back in high school.

It was all so simple, and the battery lasted forever. Wish I could say the same for the $400 iPod I use now. As for games, I usually avoided them, because those tiny screens strain my eyes.

I finally got a copy of Animal Crossing: New Leaf in the mail that I got as part of a trade. Currently, still sealed. It's one of my favorite chillout games. But for the most part, I'm actually playing Kingdom Hearts HD on PS3 at the moment. I once binged on a Pokemon game for DS (you all know how addictive that series is) and my eyes hurt. Kept squinting and had a headache because my eye muscles were worn. Took me a few days to recover. Never had that problem with TV games. Only reason stuff like Animal Crossing doesn't do that is because it's, well, mellow.

I have a 3DS (and all the Nintendo handhelds prior) and a Vita. I'm not currently playing anything right now, but my recent favorites are Pokemon Y and Ruby, and Persona 4 for the Vita.
I like RPGs (and Animal Crossing!) because even though I've always been a gamer, I've never been particularly good. lol!
