Who here has this? What are your thoughts? This is the next cd on my list and plan on picking it up this week. These guys are one of my favorite bands.

I am however hearing that this album is their most commercial release. Is this true? How does this album stack up with their catalogue?

I was interested in hearing more from this because the few clips I heard sounded surprisingly good from a band I didn't expect much from.

Great album! It's slightly different, but I wouldn't say it's any more commercial than anything else they've done. People are making that comment based on the song with the Epica singer. She adds something not found on any other Primal Fear song, but if you listen to the song and imagine it without her vocals, it's really no different than any other Primal Fear ballad. Like I've said before, Matt Heafy screaming in Trivium makes them metalcore, when he sings aggressive, they're not. The music never changed. Vocals make a huge difference, and her vocals do here, but this album is not commercial.

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to this! I'm also a pretty big Epica fan, so that's very cool for me.

Thanks - I appreciate that. However, I think I'm going to wait and be surprised by it when I get it this week.

Very Happy Cool...that's exactly what I do when I buy a no-brainer. The new Rob Rock, the new Nostradameus, the new Elvenking... those bands I know sound-unheard that I like it so I want to be surprised as well! Primal Fear has some hits with me, but a couple misses so I wanted to hear....I will be getting this one...

I've just recently earlier this year became a fan of Primal Fear with their greatest hits album and plan on getting more of them (the new one is on that list). Also, speaking of Epica, I plan on getting their new one soon as well.

Ive listened to the new PF a few times through and I am not sure where i fall on it yet. I really liked seven seals because it was a step away from the priest stuff and the new one seems to be going back to priest again. Its well done and sounds sonically awesome. I just thought they would continue their evolution as a band and i am not sure they did it..

I want to take some more listens to see how i feel though. They are a good band though and it is an enjoyable cd. I was really entertained by Seven Seals in a way this one hasnt yet..

Alex

Hmmm...I think it's a natural progression from Seven Seals.

i liked the first album alot... it's been a steady decline though, despite Ralf's spectacular vox!

A lot of people like the first best. I think it's their worst. I think about half the songs are just not that great.

Just got NEW RELIGION and I'm pleasantly surprised. I had kinda wandered away from Primal Fear after the first two CDs because on each one after that it seemed like they were just making the same album over and over again. SEVEN SEALS showed that they were trying to experiment a little, however, and get away from the Judas Priest Junior thing. NEW RELIGION picks up where that left off. The duet with the chick from Epica was a strange listen at first but it's grown on me since then. (It would sound great on the soundtrack to an UNDERWORLD-style movie!)
It sounds to me like PF are finally finding "their" sound on this album. Of course, it usually doesn't take a band seven or eight records to do that.
Oh, and Ralf's voice gets better with every new P.F. disc... the guy has lungs of leather!! :metal:
