...what would you do?

I would do one of two things after buying a ridiculous house system:

Donate my existing collection and rebuy everything as Japanese imports all with the Obi strip. Purchase any and all Collector's and Deluxe editions. Or,

Donate my existing collection and rebuy everything new on vinyl. Only vinyl, no cds. I would also wrap the walls in picture discs since money is no longer a factor.

I am leaning towards the latter, as, in theory it would give me time to acquire things more slowly and invest time in digesting the music; instead of simply a free for all spending spree online.

Well, I'd certainly upgrade my system. It's an old Pioneer system (almost 30 years old now) and although it works fine, it does not have all working parts (cassette player and turntable). After that, I'm not really sure how I'd go about it but there would no longer be any gaps in the collection and of course any rare high priced items would no longer be an issue. It's nice to dream.

I don't even have a "system" anymore. On the rare occasion that I do listen to CDs around the house I just use my DVD/Blu Ray player.

So I guess if I won the Powerball I'd use some of the first check to buy a real good stereo, then use another sizable chunk ordering whatever the hell CDs I wanted off of Amazon, DeepDiscount, etc., etc. and fill in all those outstanding holes in my various discographies.

I'd continue sticking strictly to CDs though, I could never go back to vinyl. I just don't have the storage space for it.

Update my whole system as I still have an SAE receiver from back in the 80's still kicks ass after all these years but it it could die anytime.

I have plenty of vinyl and all mint condition so don't need much there but cd's and dvd's I'd rack in.

The most I would probably spend on is memorabilia like old concert posters, patches, pins even shirts I have a bunch now but that's what I spend more on these days.

Then buy your neighbour's house and store them in there!

Or move into a mansion/castle or something.

I'd upgrade my stereo for sure. And probably all the rare NWOBHM stuff I could find.

I would buy all the Metal CDs and vinyls that are on this island I live on and also I would buy a killer stereo and record player. Then I would mine the internet for all those musical things I cannot afford now, along with filling out as many discographies as possible.

I've never been a big fan of loud stereo systems, preferring to listen to music exclusively on headphones. For the most part, I would not need to buy special editions. I usually just go for the common standard CD releases because I say, if it was good enough then to make it popular in its time, then it is still good enough now. This usually goes with well-known stuff. Of course, if it sounds way better and is cheaper than the standard CD release (as far as the more obscure bands go) then I'll get the new versions.

Thing is, I want to complete some CD collections by my favorite Japanese artists, but finding resources in english that are also cheap to order from is a hassle. My Japanese is decent but not quite there in terms of creating in-depth communication for specific stuff.

I'd become thrash Jesus and purchase the rights to all this music that labels like Roadrunner are holding hostage (i.e., Atrophy, Xentrix). They probably don't sell to civilians like that anymore, but it's a fun thought.

As far as my actual collection goes, I'd restrict myself to 5 albums per week, as I make it a point to never buy more than I can listen to.

Lastly, I'd purchase a better MP3 player with a ridiculous amount of memory. My iPod currently has 2 gigabytes left, and frequently bricks up and shuts itself off.

Why buy an mp3 player when you can afford an army of servants carrying a vinyl player, a 2000 Watt amplifier and a generator wherever you go? Just name the album, and your personal DJ will dig out the record for you. You can just enjoy listening, all the while riding your pet elephant on your solid gold howdah.

I've got a pretty good system so I'm good there. I would probably still buy at about the same rate because collecting just isn't a priority like before. Most of my purchases now are digital.I would however start collecting other things if I hit the powerball like old muscle cars, stuff like that.😀

Me too. I would buy two. One in nice working condition, and one that needs to work, so I can kinda learn how to work on cars in a fun way. Some version of a Camaro and some version of a Mustang probably. Or a GTO or Challenger or Cuda or Charger. Heh.

I'd buy all the dictionaries in the world and cross out the word "genre".
