The only Metallica album from the 90s I liked was TBA while the only Megaeth albums I like from that era are Rust, Countdown, and Youthanasia so by default it's Megadeth.

This is not even close. It's really sad when you think about how overwhelmingly better Megadeth albums were during that decade. I didn't hate either Load or Re-Load, but it should have been one album, with many of those songs on the chopping block.

Metallica didn't release a bad album in the 90s. The Black Album, Load, Reload, all kick-ass, though obviously so different that everyone shits on them. But Megadeth had more albums in the 90s, with the only turd being Risk, and even that one had some good tunes. So I'd go with Megadeth.

Aside from Risk, though, both bands released great albums in the 90s.

Why? Sure, cutting songs could have made for one really really great album, but neither had any truly bad tracks. All are, at least, good songs. I don't see a problem with that at all.

^^^^^^^^^^^^

Borrowing a phrase from you. I think the turds on Load are: Hero of the Day, Poor Twisted Me, Wasting My Hate, Mama Said and Ronnie. I think the turds on Re-load are: The Unforgiven II, Bad Seed, Prince Charming, Low Man's Lyric and Fixxxer.

I like Load fine, in fact I like some songs a great deal, but I would like it more if Metallica played with a bit more swing and looseness. They sound tight to the point of being rigid, which works great for their first 5 records but stiff for the type of songs on Load.

In some ways I almost prefer Load to Death Magnetic because Death Magnetic sounds a bit forced at points, even though I like that album.

Load and Reload are much better than Death Magnetic. Those albums are a band being honest, writing from their hearts. Death Magnetic is an album written by a band trying so hard to be something they're not. It's a good album, but it is forced, and blatantly so.

Even in concert - I saw both bands - different times - Megadeth was an eye opener - more excitment - and energy - the lead guitar solos were loud and hot - while Metalica...maybe I sat too far away...both shows....fan-base for sure. Well, I guess Dave got the last laugh !
And from what I hear, he wrote some of the Kill Em All release. They might have even partied harder too.

Both bands are garbage in the 90s when Death Metal was at it peak back then.
