Praise be! Our long nightmare is over. Eddie Trunk's reign of terror has ended...for now, anyway.

http://eddietrunk.com/119-an-important-message-to-the-fans-of-that-metal-show/

Quote :
We are sorry to report that VH1 Classic will not continue to make any new episodes of That Metal Show. It has been an incredible run of eight years, roughly 125 episodes and some really cool specials. The global response to TMS has been simply amazing, and we will be eternally grateful for the support from the rock and metal fans that have showed us so much love. We truly would have never made it as long as we did without you! A huge thanks also to the great crews we had over the years both in NYC and Los Angeles, to our producer Jeff Baumgardner, and to all the executives at VH1. And finally, thanks to the hundreds of artists that joined us on our set, had fun with us, shared their stories and many, many laughs. From the biggest names in rock history, to the up-and-comers: we thank you all for being a part of it.

Of course we very much want to keep That Metal Show alive, and with the blessing of VH1 Classic, we’ve got the keys to the show and are currently searching for a new home. We’re not sure where we’ll land, but we hope to be back in our studio and your living rooms as soon as possible.

It was good for the first couple of seasons, but it kinda felt like it ran it's course after awhile.

I can't say that I'll miss it, but it was a decent enough time-killer and a nice way to see hard rock and metal get some kind of recognition without it being goofy.

That's too bad. I haven't had VH1 Classic for the last 2 years since I had switched over to DirecTV but I always did like watching the show.

There's only so many times you can interview the same guys from the '80s and drone on about UFO.

I do miss the original Miss Box of Junk (Keri Leigh Tucker  R.I.P. )

I watched when we subscribed to Satellite TV, but when we kicked DirecTV to the curb and went for streaming services. It wasn't missed. Hopefully, if it finds a new home ? One can hope for another producer. Which means different guests & format. I'd could see AxsTV picking it up and maybe utilizing some live performances with an interview platform ?

I liked it the first few years and that was really it. As was stated above, it was pretty much the same guests and jive over and over. I haven't watched in year and a half and my life hasn't changed.

I watch it every once in a while. It was a cool show. Bummer that they are cancelling it.

I know that it wasn't, but it always felt scripted, where it seemed as though everything was timed to the second. It never had a natural feeling to it. I always got the impression that it should have been on HBO or Showtime where the two "funny guys" could be raunchy and Eddie could really geek out in his Metal fandom. When they switched to the hour format it got a little better and they dropped some of the lame bits. The "Stump the Trunk"bit was awful. I get it that he has a wealth of knowledge and championed the cause for Hard Rock and Heavy Metal when no one else on Radio really did; but when Eddie would stamp his feet and fume like petulant child when the '"musical messiah" got a fact or something wrong made me embarrassed for him. In contrast, imho, the top 5 segment should have been longer as I thought that was the best part of the show where they got to rank some of our all time faves and tell why they rank them that way.
I will always give Eddie credit for railing against the Hall of Fame, though.

It was a heavy metal show on a cable channel that caters to an older audience. I was glad it was on for the off chance that someone would stumble on it and start buying some metal albums. I think it helped the scene in general. I found the show itself to be nothing special, but it wasn't really aimed at me, rather it was aimed at casual fans. I found the idiot comedians to be far more annoying than Eddie Trunk, not to mention that Don and Jim's recommendations almost always sucked. Those guys seemed completely unaware of any new band that wouldn't be featured in Revolver. Be that as it may, it's unfortunate that it's gone and it will never be replaced.

It was great until they started recycling the same guests. But still, it was good enough to tune in and watch when nothing else was on.  I would rather have it around than not have any rock/metal oriented show at all...

If the do find a new home, they need to update and add something new.

I liked the musical guests and those jams. The segments thing is what made it lame. Made it feel scripted. I have no issue with Trunk, Jim or Don. I would have liked for them to spend more time with the guests. Having guests participate in ranking was cool.

I've never seen full episodes just little segments online, but what I have seen was entertaining and I definitely learned stuff about bands I was unfamiliar with from the show.

It was ok, and did watch it, but I always wanted to like a little more then I did and wish they had interviewed the artist a little more thoroughly

I never watched it, but VH1 has been creatively dead for years now. Mostly they just rehash concert VHS/DVD performances of canonically classic artists, or do reruns of Behind the Music, of the same artists they've been talking about for years. And let's not forget the Pop-Up Video stuff with interesting but outdated info.

I welcome the change. It doesn't matter to me like what happened to MTV. They both now air reality programs totally unrelated to music, although MTV more so than VH1. I can only look forward to see how TV and Streaming broadcasting trends will shift.

Bummer, I liked the show. Good but not great. The hosts can be annoying, but it was fun to watch. I would imagine AXS TV will pick it up, the network seems like a natural home and they show a lot of hard rock and metal concerts.

I am actually starting to dig that show a lot. Jack Maxwell is not too far from us (Boston).

Have you really expected anything else from paid actors who follow a script and "recommend" whatever their producers tell them to? Smile

VH1 Classic had them handcuffed a lot of the time but none of them are really passionate enough to dig too deep into the genre. Eddie Trunk basically only cares about the bands he discovered in his youth and the few he became friends with at Megaforce in the 80's. Any new stuff he's into is mainstream rock or features members of said bands. See: http://eddietrunk.com/1227-the-eddie-trunk-top-10-albums-of-2015 or http://eddietrunk.com/about/favorites.

Kind of surprised Viacom would give up the rights, but I guess money talks more than ever there.

It's the same with radio & magazines too. A big advertising budget buys some love and a five star review Mad .

Won't be missed.

The major problem with this show is they had such a small circle of guests. The repetition made the show a chore to watch, especially with the interview segments being far too short. Trunk kept insisting that damn near every artist had been contacted, but I'm just not quick to believe that. It was more of a clique, those guys.

And F*ck Don. Jim is one funny dude. Don is a terribly over-enthusiastic comedian who thinks acting like a beefy, foul-mouthed disc jockey is gonna make people laugh.

The interviews were too short and never really went deep into interesting stories from the past or little known facts. It seemed like every time one of the guests was a "friend" of Eddie, he would give them a leading question to have them repeat a well known fact so he could act like "see, I knew that" and wink at the audience.
