I was going to get this but after reading some review I think I'll wait.

What review? It's a great album. I mean, even if you don't think it's great, it's highly unlikely you will not enjoy it if you liked their other albums.

This was the one that caught my attention:

Quote :
It seems as though Airbourne knew that they didn't have a good batch of hooks this time around, so they decided to crank up the volume and tempo - which is fine, as long as all the songs don't sound remarkably similar, which they do. Furthermore, the lyrics this time approach Steel Panther levels of raunchiness, particularly during the album's totally forgettable second half. Raunchy lyrics only work when the songs are catchy, and because they are not, it just sounds like they are pandering.

While their sophomore album sounded like b-sides from their debut, this album sounds like b-sides from "Black Dog Barking." Out of their 4 albums, this ranks #3 or perhaps even #4. These guys are capable of much better.

There are 2 or possibly 3 songs with juvenile sexual lyrics on this album - "Down On You," "Do Me Like You Do Yourself," and possibly "Never Been Rocked Like This" which I would argue has less explicit lyrics. There are hooks a plenty on this album - certainly more than on their second album which rarely connected with me. I would say this is less good than Black Dog Barking but almost on par with their debut which, incidentally, had juvenile sexual songs as well - or am I the only one that remembers the lyrics to "Diamond In The Rough?"

The lyrics part isn't really what bothers me.

It's more this:

as long as all the songs don't sound remarkably similar, which they do

Now granted, with this style of music the songs are naturally going to sound a lot alike but I've never really had a problem with the "sameness" of tracks on other Airbourne albums but this user and several other apparently did and that concerns me, especially if the person posting the review is familiar with Airbourne and knows that a certain level of sameness is inevitable.

Juvenile lyrics are fine. Some lyrics on the new album are just extra juvenile. It's not a big deal, just something I noticed.

I dig all four of their albums, but I'd rank this one right under their debut, followed by No Guts, No Glory and Black Dog Barking. And then the EP, I guess.

I don't know why No Guts, No Glory disappointed so many people. I think it's a fine follow-up. Maybe there being 18 songs kind of waters it down for some people, I don't know. Black Dog Barking, to me, is the worst of the main four.

Anyway, this new one is damn good. And yeah, plenty of hooks, man. On every song. That reviewer is crazy.

Yeah, I don't hear what that reviewer is hearing at all.

This album sounds like Airbourne, who sound like a heavier AC/DC. just like on all their other albums. I don't think the songs "all sound the same" nor do I think these sound like leftovers or b-sides. I think Airbourne delivered exactly what you would expect Airbourne to deliver and that's a good thing.

Yea, I'm not getting my undies in a bunch over the lyrics either. It's just that I noticed them right off the bat on my first listen.

Airborne has been a "go-to" band for our in-arena dj at work. They're good, up-beat hard rock music that sits well with sports fans. So we happen to pay a little more attention to their lyrics to make sure they're suitable for that purpose. 'Down on You' will not be played at our hockey arena, no matter how catchy it might be. Razz

I think overall, it's another fine album by them. If you liked their other output, you should dig this album too.

PostSubject: Re: Airbourne   Wed Nov 02, 2016 9:59 pm

i remember back in 2008 when i watched The Lost Boys: The Trible and heard the song "Too Much, Too Young, Too Fast" for the first time and liked what i heard and wanted to know who the band was, well i did when i got Guitar Hero: World Tour and went on to YouTube to check out more of Airbourne and fell in love (corny way of putting it, lmao!).

but by 2010 when they released No Guts, No Glory i almost went to cash register at Best Buy to get it but ended up putting the album back and after that i kinda fell off the train for weird reasons, i ended up getting more into the NWOTHM and new wave of thrash metal stuff and just forgot about 'em and by the time of 2013 when WWE was using "Live It Up" for Extreme Rules it did not grab me, but by that time i was also more into Bullet (who i also was into back in 2008) who does share similarities but are more rawer and heavier.

so by September of this year when i saw they were releasing the new album, i was not very thrilled (again, i lost quite abit of interest) but when (like usual) WWE was using "Breakin' Outta Hell" for Hell In A Cell my...interest peaked again and what even peaked it even more was the fact that Airbourne got signed to Spinefarm, wich is now the home to Venom and Ranger, so i had decided to not just pick up the album but revisit Ready to Rock from 2004 (wich is a great release and is more of a full length than a EP) but when Breakin' Outta Hell finally arrived i put the disc on and really ended up liking it wich then had me checking out the other two albums i had never heard wich were No Guts, No Glory and Black Dog Barkin, really ended up liking No Guts, No Glory more than Black Dog Barking.

i really think that Airbourne are a mixture of AC/DC & Rose Tattoo, especially when Airbourne do their fast tracks is where i get a Rose Tattoo vibe, even i think Joel O'Keeffe at times sounds like Angry Anderson more than Bon Scott and Bryan Johnson. but still a great band that will keep the classic Hard 'n' Heavy sound going, since the old guard are sadly not gonna be arround for too long.

also, the song "It's All for Rock 'n' Roll", every time i hear it it brings chils down my arm and spine. a nice tribute to Lemmy!. i'll shut up now, lol.

I'm sort of like you in that I really didn't like No Guts or Black Dog much when I bought them.

But then I decided to create an AC/DC Clone comp and I included bands like Rhino Bucket, Bullet, Sideburn, Sin/City, Bone Hard, '77 and of course Airbourne.  And that's when I came to appreciate both No Guts and Black Dog, but I like Black Dog more.  In fact I even bought a T shirt of the Black Dog Barking album cover.

So I was all set to get this new one until I started reading reviews of it.  They are really mixed so I still haven't pulled the trigger.

i'd say check it out on YouTube (there is a full album upload) and see if it's worth your money.

even anyone else here who ain't sure of even buying the album should give a try on YouTube before spending your money right away.

I agree with your AC/DC - Rose Tattoo comparison.  That's exactly what Airbourne sound like IMO.  But while I'm a big AC/DC fan for some reason Rose Tattoo never really clicked for me.

I'll check out the new one on YouTube.

And for the record I'd say Bullet sounds like a cross between Brian Johnson-era AC/DC and Accept.  I love their music but I find the vocals get annoying when listening to an album straight through.  But when Bullet comes up when I have my AC/DC Clones comp on random I like them.

I've only heard a few songs by them but have liked what I've heard. This box set would be a perfect pick up for me so I could get the 3 albums in one shot.

I have the albums already, but I could be interested in this maybe for that 4th disc of b-sides. I guess if the price was right.

Ya know, you're right. I checked and I have quite a few of those already. They were itunes bonus tracks and stuff.
