Wow.  Anybody have any idea what year this would be from?  Mid 80s maybe?

GWF ran from 1991 to 1994. That was my after school fix every day during the week. Occasionally, you would see some of their top talent show up on WCW or WWF shows as job guys. And that's also where some bigger stars got their feet wet, 2 examples being Raven and Buff Bagwell.

That was back when Buff wore a Lone Ranger style mask and was called "The Handsome Stranger"

HAHAHAHAHA!!! He was on this episode!  I was wondering who that was.

Have you seen any episodes with the Cartel stable yet? That's a who's who of names. Cactus Jack was part of it. He had already had his first run in WCW, and this was right before his second WCW run where he really started getting big.

Muckan Singh (RIP), you might recognize as Trucker Norman in WCW, and he was also Bastion Booger in the WWF.

Rip Rogers was a regular job guy in WCW, known for his pink trunks and pigtails, and outlandish selling. But in reality, he was a damn good wrestler.

Scott Anthony, who dubbed himself the "Palm Beach Heartthrob" would go to WCW in 1992 as Scotty Flamingo, then Johhny Polo in WWF, before finally becoming Raven in ECW.

Some other names that I remember showing up from time to time were the Soultaker (Papa Shango/ Godfather), and a Native American tag team called Tribal Nation who had previously been in WCW as the Renegade Warriors

I found this interesting tidbit in the Wikipedia writeup of Steele's career:

Quote :
As Steele recalled in a later shoot interview, his infamous "Duh-dahh" interview style happened by accident. Throughout his career, Steele prided himself on being able to cut eloquent and effective promos, and ranked his mic skills with the best in the business. At a WWF TV taping in the early 1980s, he was cutting one of these promos when Vince McMahon cut him off, and reminded Steele that his gimmick was the "Animal", and for an animal he was "making too much sense". Incensed, Steele did a second take of nothing but garbled and incoherent syllables ("Duhh-dahh"). Steele did this deliberately, and out of pure frustration, thinking that McMahon would acquiesce and allow Steele to cut his normal, eloquent promos. Much to Steele's shock, McMahon replied, "That's exactly what I want!", and this would remain Steele's interview style for the rest of his WWF run. Steele started to fully cultivate his gimmick of a menacing imbecile.

I saw Soultaker in Memphis on CWA. That was probably during the time when Memphis and Texas wrestling were sharing talent.

They were talking about The Cartel during the commentary but only as a group and they didn't appear in either of the episodes that were on last night.

RIP to George "The Animal" Steele. He came from an era of wrestling that was just more fun for me. Sad to see him go.

Just heard on Fox News about George Steele (mentioned by Greg Gutfeld).

R.I.P.

I saw that too. Nice for Gutfeld to give a shout out to George. As Greg said, anyone who watched pro wrestling in the 70s and 80s knew who George "The Animal" Steele was.

In his 80s appearances, McMahon on commentary used to always talk about "that nasty green tongue". I always thought Steele achieved that effect by putting lime Kool-Aid powder in his mouth but according to his Wikipedia bio he did it using a bunch of Clorets.

I just read that Koloff isn't in the WWE Hall Of Fame.  How on earth can that be?

It read that he had been battling liver cancer. That's a shame. Its also a shame he isn't in the Hall Of Fame.

Same here and how The Russians as a faction aren't in the HOF is a travesty.

Practically all the wrestlers I grew up watching are no longer with us.

Look out Pedro Morales and Bruno Sammartino.

I was never a fan of Pedro and I was too young to remember Bruno but watching vids and hearing his story and his interview with JBL made him one of my faves too.

Gonna have to jam my pro wrestling themed albums now.

Bruno Sammartino is huge around here. He's a local legend and still appears on tv as a pitchman for various businesses.

Laughing very hard

I actually saw him wrestle The Spoiler at the Allentown Fairgrounds Arena back around 1972.  Sad to think Pedro might be the only one on that card who is still alive.

Nope, I just checked and Sonny King is still alive.  He and Chief Jay Strongbow defended the WWWF tag titles against Tanaka and Fuji (both of whom are dead).  Freddie Blassie and The Grand Wizard were there as managers too and they're both gone.

I knew that Pedro Morales song reminded me of a more famous song.  It just hit me.

Not only is it similar but it also rhymes.  lol!

Turning away from the depression of losing those we remember, today I was listening to Shinedown-Amarylis and it had been a while so imagine my shock when I got to "Enemies" and realized that that is the song in the Monday Night Raw opening video. I guess I just didn't remember that track. Anyways, I could picture the video while the song was playing, found it amusing.
