Not sure if this one has been done before in one way or the other. Among the albums you acquired lately (say during the last six months) which one has turned out to be a favourite of yours? I personally go with Bloodbound - stormborn. This album slays from the opening track until the last one.

This album has made me want to explore more this great band and i am now digging into their older discography. So far, no disappointment!

Overkill's Grinding Wheel for me too...

Aside from that, I haven't bought much in 2017 thus far.

As for stuff I acquired in the last quarter of 2016, Victim's By The Neck, Woslom's Time To Rise, Nasty Whores' self titled debut and Serpent Saints' All Things Metal are still getting a lotta spins from me months later.

Another one I recently picked up and liked WAY more than I thought I would was Yes' 90125. I bought that at a Goodwill simply cuz I've always liked the single "Owner of a Lonely Heart," but the rest of the album is damn good too. Who knew? (shrugs)

Of new bands I've gotten into, Wuthering Heights - Far from the Madding Crowd. Melodic folky europower that I somehow missed 15 years ago.

It made me want to find out about all other bands with Nils Patrik Johansson.

favorite recent discoveries for me:

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. I'd heard of them before, but only checked them out within the last week, and I'm working my way through their discography now. They play an interesting sort of post-punk, bluesy, sometimes-psychedelic rock and they've been very prolific over their career.

Sonic Youth. The same case as Nick Cave; I'd heard of them, but never gave them a shot until within the last month, and they're f*ckin' me up they're so good. They're a rowdy no-wave/noise rock/post-punk group with a knack for writing catchy tunes wrapped in feedback and noisy soundscapes.

Crying. They've only got one album, and it's the weirdest genre blending album I've encountered in a while. I've had a lot of people tell me its too cheesy for them, but I love it. It's like an art pop/prog-rock/prog-metal/indie rock album. The guitar is very intricate at times and reminiscent of early 80s pop-prog groups like Asia, Yes, GTR, etc, but with meatier riffs, while the drums are pretty wild and fit with the guitar style nicely. The vocals are female and pretty pixie-like, taking some cues from dream pop and indie rock.

here's a track, if that interests anyone at all:

I found out about a Swans side project called Angels of Light that have some really cool albums. They're essentially a folkier/more psychedelic/artier take on the post-rock sound Michael Gira had taken Swans into in the mid to late 90s.

The coolest metal I've gotten into recently is this Singapore grindcore band Wormrot. They have a very thick wall-of-sound and really great riffs, with some sick twisted vocals.

Talk is also really good if you dig Rabin-era Yes. They really knew how to write great prog-pop rock songs.

Violet Cold - Anomie

That dude from Azerbaijan does it again and how! I can't describe how awesome I think this guy is.

I've already gushed over these guys so I wont again. Suffice to say it belongs on this thread.

Asobi Seksu - Citrus. Very great Japanese/American shoegazey stuff

Katla - Embryo. Fantastic Swedish psyche madness!

Quite possibly my second or third favourite Devin album, which is much more of a compliment than it sounds lol!

Honourable mentions for Haunted, Emma Ruth Rundle, Kreator and Heavy Traffic

The Grinding Wheel is indeed great.

I ordered the album by Flotsam and Jetsam earlier today.

One recent acquisition of mine I love is the self titled Sortilège album. It's a 1983 release, but I didn't own it until earlier this month.
