Sabbat.

Glorious technical thrash mayhem.

I have loved them since 1988 when I heard Hosanna In Excelsis on Noise Records' Doomsday News Compilation (which also turned me onto Voivod).

Some say they have anti christian lyrics, I say so what. Everyone has an opinion. I'll be right in the end. Smile

I finally ordered the first 2 remastered releases, History of a Time To Come and Dreamweaver.

Anyone have thoughts on this sometimes overlooked band?

We always talk about the uk SABBAT but it will be nice if ones we talk about the Japanish SABBAT with much more history.
Anyway, i like the first two SABBAT albums very much. The third is not my fave. I also like the first SKYCLAD albums very much.

You can never hail Sabbat (UK) enough. As for the lack of talk about Sabbat (JPN) I think it's because the Japanese Sabbat isn't so well known or available. I could be wrong. I'd love to hear them.

Yeah, the Japanish Sabbat are not so well known, only in the underground. I agree that you can never hail SABBAT from the UK enough 🤘

VERY VERY VERY underrated and underappreciated band. I don't have any of their albums, but a friend of mine got "Dreamweaver" back in the day. I can remember being very impressed with it. I need to acquire their whole catalogue.

while I love the UK Sabbat, the Japanese band is REALLY underrated. Great bands.

What's the Japan band like? Are they thrash too?

They're blackened thrash although the early stuff is just straightforward thrash.

The British Sabbat destroys the Japanese one.

I haven't heard the entire album yet (I ordered it), but even Mourning Has Broken seems to kick heavy arse.

Zombie thread! Back from the dead! Urrrrrrgh... braaaaaaaiiiinss..... (yeah, I know, I need a new joke for when I bump an ancient thread...)

I randomly came across the UK Sabbat's History of a Time to Come at my local Goodwill a few weeks ago. I was not familiar with them back in the day (I remember seeing the name in ads/articles in metal magazines but I don't think I ever actually heard'em) but obviously I had to jump on it anyway... it was so bizarre to find an oldie Noise Records disc like that out "in the wild!"

Anyway... given it a few spins now and it's pretty good stuff, the vocals are a bit of an acquired taste tho. Sounds almost like a British Kreator. †

Added bonus, this CD seems to go for pretty good coin online nowadays soooo, not bad for a $1.99 throw. headbanger

I have the first two (remastered), and never cared to explore further. Pretty rough stuff, but also weirdly intriguing.

The vocals don't put me off that much as I'm a big Skyclad nut.

I've only heard a handful of Skyclad tracks but I don't remember him using that "Sabbat voice" on any of them.

Walkyier definitely sounds more extreme on Sabbat, but there's enough similarities too, especially on the early Skyclad records.

Great album! You should pick up Dreamweaver while your at it. Avoid their third one, Mourning has Broken. It's not terrible, but they have a different singer and doesn't have the same punch as the first two.

As Lari said, his vocals sound quite similar to the Sabbat sound on The Wayward Sons of Mother Earth and A Burnt Offering for the Bone Idol from Skyclad. Those two albums are actually closer to the first two Sabbat albums in sound and tempo than Mourning Has Broken is.
