Watching Cards @ Padres

Wainwright came of the DL to start this game.† He should have retired after last year.† He only lasted 2.1 innings and walked 6.† He only gave up two runs but it took him more than 70 pitches to record 7 outs.† And the Cardinal offense is snoozing again.

The Pirates slept walk though the Sunday game and lost 5-0 today . Nova had a meltdown again and the Pirates offense no showed. Too bad. In this tight NL Central race, every win counts.

Tell me about it.† The Cards were down 4-0 but managed to close it to 5-3 by the ninth and had the bases loaded with only 1 out.† But that's how it ended.

Wow, that's pretty sad because the Reds are really bad.

And I find that very funny. Nothing better than seeing the Yankees West lose.

The Cards are 7-0 against the Reds this year and have beaten them 11 times in a row.† Take away their games against the Reds and STL is at .500.

Yankees of the west?

The Dodgers made one big trade a few years ago with Boston and LA has become the "Yankees of the west". The Dodgers have brought up and use more through their farm system in the last few years than you realize.

I have to admit that I think of the Dodgers as the Yankees west too although as you point out, they've brought up a lot of their own players recently.† It's just a carryover from 3 or 4 years ago I guess.† Actually I think the Angels are more "Yankees West" than the Dodgers.†

But I don't take as much joy in LA losing as I do when the Yankees and/or Boston lose

I watched the Pirates blank the White Sox 7-0 for their inexplicably Major League leading 7th shut out.

Padres at the Pirates. Pirates were able to scratch out a win 5-4.

Good grief, the Cardinals are a MASH unit.† And we're not just talking "bit players or relievers" here.† Adam Wainwright, Carlos Martinez, Yadier Molina and now Paul DeJong...all on the DL.† That's two starting pitchers, the starting catcher and the starting shortstop.† And all but Martinez are going to miss significant time.† Not to mention a host of relievers (Matt bowman, Luke Gregerson, Tyler Lyons and some others).† Plus the minor league catching prospect we brought up to play in place of Molina is now on the DL with a hamstring issue.

Watched the Pirates lose to the Padres 3-2. I swear everytime Nova pitches the Pirates find ways to bungle the game. They stranded 13 runners on base and were down 3-2 in the bottom of the 9th. Dickerson leads off with a double. Follow that up with 2 strikeouts and a ground out, game over, On the flip side they called up Austin Meadows from Indianapolis and he ended up going 2 for 4 with a stolen base. His 2 outs were deep center fly outs and if the wind wasn't so blustery, they may have cleared the fence.

Watching the Phillies/Cardinals game

Cards have come back twice in this game, from 3-0 and then 5-3.† It's currently 6-5 Cardinals in the 7th.

AND Greg Holland blows another lead.† I sure am glad we're paying this clown $13M this year to come in and F up games.

It's now 6-6 in the 8th.† Good grief he sucks.†You know a player is bad when Cardinal fans are booing him and they are.

AND now it's 7-6 Phillies and the boos continue.† Man this guy is awful.† I'll come in and F up games for 10% of what this a-hole is making.

Nice job Holland!† Final: 7-6 Phillies

Watched the Pirates lose to the Padres 6-2. Kingham, who had pitched rather well his last 2 outings, have up 3 runs in the top of the 1st with a walk and 3 straight doubles. Couple that with an anemic offense and that spells a loss.

Watched the "baby 'birds" beat the Phillies 5-1. Rookie Jack Flaherty got his first ML win going 7 2/3 allowing just 1 run on 2 hits while walking one and fanning 13. He threw 120 pitches. Then rookie Jordan Hicks closed it out hitting 105mph on the radar gun. 105!

The offense was spurred by rookie OF Tyler Oneill's 3 for 3 day that included his 2nd HR in as many days. All around great performance by the kids forced into the majors due to the Cardinals having 10 guys on the DL.

Did the Cardinals trade Greg Holland to the Pirates overnight?

Looks like it was Felipe Vasquez doing his best Holland impression.† I never even heard of the guy but his numbers don't look that bad even after today's outing.
