Seems crossover rarely ever gets mentioned around here.

I think these bands are some of the greatest not just in crossover, but thrash in general.

The Accused
Leeway
Cro-Mags
Sliced Pimples
Crumbsuckers
MX Machine
Ludichrist
Cerebral Fix
DRI
Hirax
Ardkore
Wasted Youth

Later Black Flag is considered by some as crossover. If it counts, I am a major fan of them.

Suicidal Tendencies and C.O.D for sure! Apart from them, I can't think of any other crossover bands that I listen to off the top of my head.

C.O.D.? is that supposed to be S.O.D. or C.O.C.? or is it another band?

Does early stuff like Discharge and GBH count? How about stuff like Nailbomb or Pro-pain? I love Tendencies and Nuke Assault but I'm not sure I exactly grasp the boundaries of this genre.

Crossover is a real fine lined genre that not all bands fit into. Many, many people make the mistake of tagging metalcore bands of today into this genre - but they simply don't fit here.

Crossover is a perfect blending of 80s hardcore (not 90s hardcore, two separate things) and thrash metal. When I say 80s hardcore I'm referring to bands such as Black Flag and Dead Kennedys. D.R.I. was pretty much the first band to really play this stuff, thus the name 'crossover' was tagged from D.R.I. mid 80s album of the same name, "Crossover". There was a real political climate at the time. Thrashers hated punks. Crossover brought these two crowds together in a friendly way. The 80s was so 'clique ridden' it wasn't even funny. And crossover really played a big part in the whole bringing together of these two types of rockers.

Metalcore on the other hand is a mix of todays hardcore (screaming vocals, etc) with extreme metal (black and death stuff, not thrash). So they are two separate genres all together.

Anyway - I'm a bit of a metal geek. I read all kinds of books on genres of music etc. So this is my take on it. Feel free to disagree, but this is how I see it.

alot of metalcore has a very distinct thrash influence. it's not just death & black.

Don't really know what to name under crossover, but from the band's mentioned above, these three would be my favorite:

S.O.D.
Carnivore
Suicidal Tendencies

I don't really know if I'd call Discharge crossover per se but I honestly believe they, more than any other band, influenced a lot of thrash metal/crossover. Discharge are a legendary band. The stuff they were doing back in 80/81 were waaaaaay ahead of their time, even as far as other early hardcore bands go.

And Nailbomb, crossover? No way. I see them as a hybrid of industrial and groove metal. Good band though.

I was lucky enough to see Discharge at a small club in '81. Wall of sound indeed!
