I was a big Jack drinker when I was younger, but I stopped because I became a mean drunk and it caused me some problems. I stick to good vodka now if I want to drink. And beer of course.

Like MetalGuy, I was a big time Jack Daniels drinker in years past. I still like a little bit of J.D. on the rocks once in a while but I can't put it away like I used to. I'm pretty much a beer guy nowadays, although sometimes when I'm at a bar (which isnt' very often anymore) I'll finish the night off with a shot of J.D. as I'm getting ready to leave

I only like liquor when in a coctail or mixed drink. Jack and coke are always good. In the past I tried doing shots and drinking straight alcohol but it gave my acid reflux a run for it's money and I just never enjoyed it. I've been drunk twice in my life and each time I regretted it (felt good for a while, but the after effect was NOT worth it IMO).

My husband was head of the drafting department at Jim Beam for several years. We all like our bourbon here in Kentucky. I personally prefer Maker's Mark above all the bourbons produced locally (and there are quite a few). You should make it a point to come to our Bourbon Festival held annually in late September. No problem getting the Jim Beam black label or white label or small batch or single barrel.

Jack it is

I have some Irish Wiskey I picked up in ireland a few years ago - good for sipping

Scotch is good, depending on the type

The thing about scotch, is you can try some many different types and find what you like (smokey, dry, double wood aged) - the fine art of scotch tasting

I will sometimes have bourbon, but mostly I stick to Scotch for whiskey. It's one of the few liquors where buying "the good stuff" is really worth it, but most days, Clan MacGregor works just fine for me.

Biringing this up.

So is there any other serious whisky lovers here - since 2007, when the last postings to this threa were done?

I drink mainly Scottish single malt.. favourites being Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Bowmoore and Ardbeg.

I don't drink it anymore, but used to like

Crown Royal
Jim Beam
and even though it technically isn't one, I still include it in there - Southern Comfort

I like strong tasting smokey single malt scotch like Lagavulin or Laphroaig. Especially Lagavulin, it's heaven in a bottle.

That's the 16 year old Lagavulin which is also pretty affordable. Definitely my #1 choice.

But if you have more than one drink, the taste is already too much. And you cannot mix it with anything, the smokiness and the aroma is too overpowering. Not to mention, it'd be a waste. One bottle lasts a long time because you only need a little to experience the taste.

For regular consumption, a lot of times I go for less pricey, but smooth tasting blended whiskeys like Teacher's or Johnnie Walker (red label). They are easier to down and you don't feel too bad for mixing them (rusty nail is the manliest cocktail ever!). Easy to drink with ice too.

That is fine whisky you have there in the photo. Lari !!

I agree.. one shot for strong tasting whisky is enough.

If I want to have many drinks, I have then Tullamore Dew.

But I drink very rarely blended whisky. I´m more after strong experiences.

Well, I have to say, you guys must all have iron cast stomachs, as I will never understand how whisky is drank for pleasure. I thought drinking red wine was an acquired taste (which I now enjoy), but whisky is a whole other thing. Good for you guys though...

Tastes have variety.. to each their own.

I also love good red and white wine. Especially red wine from Chile.

When it comes to hard liquor, I'm more a cognac/brandy guy. But I've learned to appreciate whiskey over the years thanks to a good friend of mine. What I actually enjoy most are the single-malt Scotchs like Glenlivet, etc.

You might like this site/magazine, I keep on getting ads for it through cigar aficionado:

Found a GREAT new Whisky - Catoctin Creek. They are actually 3 miles from my house and their stuff is very smooth. The Whisky is actually Rye Whisky and it is fantastic. Here's a link:

I have a bottle of 12 year old Caol Ila Single Islay Malt.

I never tried it before, but I'm planning on opening it at New Year's. From what I've understood, it should be peaty and smoky.
