I've heard a few tracks on various Beatles radio shows, and the remastered stuff sounds amazing. |
I prefer the Beatles in low-fi mono, but am still tempted by those remasters. |

I was looking at that boxset in the store yesterday, it actually looks pretty cool with some nice extras, but the price tag is a little ridiculous.
While I generally like stereo recordings more, I will admit, The Beatles in mono has a certain warmness that the stereo versions dont. |

| I flirted with the idea of buying the remasters but I think I will stick to the versions I already own, I may pick up some of the remasters versions when I start replacing more of my vinyl copies of my Beatles collection. |

| I'm not a big fan of remasters in general, so I'd need to hear them before I buy, but it's The Beatles... so they'll probably get my hard-earned eventually anyway! in the meantime, though, I'll keep spinning the old vinyl. Big fan of the group in general, but love the latter-period from Rubber Soul onwards. |

| I'm definitely interested in getting these, the original CDs were released in 1987 and sounded like crap even then. (the first few years were pretty ugly for digital sound quality, until they developed better A/D converters).
I've read about the restoration job done on these and it sounds promising. They paid particular attention NOT to brickwall the mixes on these, so all that wonderful use of space and dynamic range should be evident. Early reviews have been quite good.
I'll probably pick up Abbey Road first and see how it sounds before spending money on the others. _________________ |

| I'd love to get the remasters, but Stereo or Mono? I've heard that mono is the true way to hear The Beatles, but the mono box set is limited and it's almost $100 more expensive for only 13 discs(White Album 2 discs and Mono Masters 2 discs). It doesn't include Magical Mystery Tour, Abbey Road and Let it Be, as all three of those were originally recorded in stereo.
The stereo box set is 17 discs and includes MMT, AR and LiB, along with the Past Masters Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. Who am I kidding though I can't afford either of these, so maybe when everyone on Amazon sells off there old 87 cd versions I'll pick them all up for dirt cheap.
Also if you're a fan of the Rock Band games for Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 The Beatles have their own version coming out on Wednesday. That I will be getting. 9-9-09 is going to be a great day to be a Beatles fan. |

| in regards to the whole mono vs stereo thing...it depends more on what era we're talking about. I think the early albums (up through Rubber Soul, Revolver) sound better in Mono. But once you get to Sgt. Pepper I think stereo is the way to go.... _________________ |

| I told my wife that all I want for my birthday is the stereo box set, used or otherwise. Either is fine by me. _________________ A legend in posting since February 1st, 2007

| ^^This reminded me of something that I've wanted to say for a while.
You know, over the past year I've become a pretty big Beatles fan. I've got all of their studio albums and movies, solo albums from each of them, and some bitchin' merchandise too.
But I still think that "Please Please Me" is an abysmal album. A disgusting blot on an otherwise shining catalog. |

| You gotta check this place out for some cool Beatles acetates, master tapes and info. The original mixes of the Get Back (Let It Be) album are here.

| The Beatles are one of my Top 3 all-time favorite bands ever and I've been on a "put all albums on shuffle" kick lately...brilliant stuff. |
