The Jesus Freaks singer was the only thing that sounded Metallica like. Their music was decent but nowhere near Metallica quality.

1) Seventh Angel (wish they had more than 2 studio albums) 2) Believer (truly unique and awesome 3) Deliverance 4) Tourniquet 5) Extol 6) Vengeance Rising 7) Living Sacrifice 8. Mortification 9) The Crucified 10) Ultimatum (only know some songs, but they rock)
Seventh Angel is one of my favorite bands. They just wrote really good music with solid lyrics.
Believer - glad they are going to put out some new music. I've sorely missed their unique sound of symphonic thrash! The Trilogy of Knowledge and Dies Irae baby - yeah!
Tourniquet's first album is what got me into them - Ark of Suffering is a really good song. Guy's voice is great. 2nd album rocks, especially A Dog's Breakfast and Viento Borrasco. POD is a great album, especially with Pathogenic Occular Dissonance, Phantom Limb, The Skeezix Dilemma. Also cool are the two tracks on their greatest hits album - Perfect Night for a Hanging and The Hand Trembler.
Extol can play any style it seems and play it really well (see Synergy).
I have a soft spot for Living Sacrifice's first album - it just rocks.
Vengeance Rising - having the whole catalog, the first two albums are really really great. Human Sacrifice, Ascension, Warfare, etc.
Like I said before, really looking forward to hearing the whole Ultimatum catalog.

A few So. Calif Bands that didn't get much recognition back in the day were Martyr and Apostacy Denied. Poor recorded demos failed to emulate what they did onstage. Being that I saw Tourniquet , Deliverance, and Vengeance (Risng) so much, I appreciate some of the local bands that didn't get the attention.

The only 2 bands who did it all perfectly for me - Vengeance Rising The Crucified ,+ Minier solo LP
These others, either I didn't like everything I heard, or don't have enough of their discography yet to judge them on so far - (to be put in my Top Ten)
Thresher The Lead Living Sacrifice Sacrament Deliverance Tourniquet Ultimatum Consecrator Temple Of Blood Mortification & I USED TO love Believer .. first 2 LP's are still worthy of all metal heads/thrashers.

I found Demon Hunter sound kind of okay in small doses. Some of it was kind of thrashy, but had the impression they were usually labelled screamo/metalcore.
for example, this tracks Fire To My Soul sounds exactly like SLIPKNOT / RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE to me

Demon Hunter's sound has not been the same on every album. I certainly would not call them thrash metal. Metalcore. Nu-metal perhaps? I don't know exactly, but not thrash metal.

I think metal core would describe it pretty accurately.
