| Me and some friends were arguing who the better group was at school the other day. I think I was one of the two that actually thought Megadeth was better. There are tons of things to consider when judging the two but what do you guys think? I cant believe there wasnt a thread on this yet, Maybe I'm just an idiot and cant use the HOM search. |

| Kids today are still debating this! Metallica were better til Rust in Peace came out then Megadeth finally surpassed them. |

| Twenty years ago the answer would've been Metallica. But since they have proven themselves totally irrelevant to my life since then, the answer now would be Megadeth. At least they're still putting out decent music (even if they have also had some bumps in the road along the way). _________________ "Boys, set the terror level at code brown, 'cause I need to change my pants." -- President Hathaway, "Monsters vs. Aliens"

| I'm not a huge fan of either but for overall consistancy, I have to go with Megadeth. _________________ "Don't reenact scenes from 'Platoon' with Charlie Sheen."

| Megadeth, no question. I'm pretty suprised there was no previous thread on this, either. Talk about an ongoing debate. |

| All right, let's take the first five albums into concideration.
Kill 'em All vs. Killing is my business...and business is good
- KILL 'EM ALL
Ride the lightning vs. Peace Sells...but who's buying?
- RIDE THE LIGHTNING
Master of Puppets vs. So far, So good...So what!
- MASTER OF PUPPETS
...And Justice for all vs. Rust in Peace
- ...And Justice for All. (well, it was a HUGE technical metal battle...but Justice wins.
The Black Album blows Cryptic Writings and Risk out of the water. |

| I like them both. Why does one have to be better than the other? Why are people STILL debating this?
Megadeth have some great albums. Metallica have some great albums. Megadeth have released some stinkers. Metallica released the mother of all stinkers. Both bands were influencial. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

| Metallica is the better band overall, however Megadeth has Rust In Peace, which is one of the greatest albums ever made. _________________ |

Megadeth have been more consistent but they along with Metallica have put out some terrible releases. |

| I prefer Megadeth by quite a lot overall. However, Metallica put out quite a few fantastic releases so it's not like they're a bad band. I agree that Megadeth's earliest output was a bit shaky in comparison to Metallica but ...And Justice For All over Rust in Peace, though? No way. Never. Haha. For me, that was the turning point where Megadeth became the more consistent and enjoyable. And it's not like those first 3 albums were bad either - they were fantastic. |

| Megadeth for me. They've been more consistant over the years. Skipping that clunker known as Risk, of course. Metallica hasn't put out a decent album since Justice if you ask me. |

| Musically the first four Metallica albums are untouchable, after that Black is decent, but doesnt stand the test of time.
Megadeth was decent at start, the first couple albums were great but then these guys only got better. Somewhere after Youthanasia these guys hit a hard road and didnt start to show life until (even if a flicker) with Another Hero. After that when Dave came back, he truly has been focused and putting out amazing albums.
Personality wise, I think Metallica are idiots, who think they do no wrong and are control freaks. They got lazy and careless and I think they now know it since they are putting thier all (what is left that they have) in to this album. The producer wont let them be sloppy or lazy, and that is what they need. He wont let them think they can do whatever and they seriously need to get the fans back or they are done. So hopefully a good kick in the face will do them good and humble them and we may get something out of it, and for once since 91 we wont get a turd of an album. Yes Load and Reload are not bad, but they are not the same sounding band as what these guys originally created.
Mustain, is an aging rocker who has that smart mouth attitude but can be humble as well. Outside of finding Christ and making him more sane, he still has the metal attitude and doesnt care who he makes angry if he shares his opinon. He seems focused and is still making music pretty much close to what he started making many decades ago.
So for the very reasons above, I say Megadeth has way more respect from me. However I think musically they both have some amazing stuff to offer and both are very different sounding from the other to compare each other. I also dont honestly think there are any metal albums out there that will really bring to life what the first 4 Metallica albums did. I will never forget the life they brought to that scene in the 80's. Here is hoping they can recapture that again. |

| for me, out side of the decent Peace Sells, & the almighty Rust in Peace ( ), Megadeth just doesn't cut it. Killing is my Business has it's moments, as does So Far, So Good, So What. the rest of their catalog however, brings a big yawn. sure the talent is still there, but i hear no focus on great songwriting like that found on Rust. _________________ |
