correction, marillion fans financed a tour, not a cd. and all who participated ($60,000 was raised!) had their names in the NEXT cd.

this is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard of. Sounds like a t.v. evangelist almost. where's the financial accountability... (as previously mentioned) are they gonna listen to someone who tells them 'hey I paid $200 and it sounds like poodoo... it sucks I want my money back....' As previously stated on this thread... Bride is dead.... done.....

I think it's a good idea if it's executed correctly and people don't get screwed. I see independent music moving in a direction similar to this anyway, but if the person in charge of the project is generally seen as a froot loop, it's kind of hard to trust them. I've done this on a smaller level with t-shirts by using pre-orders at a lower price to finance printing up the batch and then selling the remaining shirts at full price to finance the next batch. I would do something along those lines possibly, but those contributing wouldn't have to pay twice. As part of the deal, they obviously get a cd for their order because at this point all I'm thinking about is preorders to help finance the project or the duplication fees. I think asking for "investors" on a larger level is probably not a good idea unless all of the legal bases have been covered.
