I think Yes is one of the greatest prog rock bands ever. They really define progressive rock in my opinion. What does everyone else think about them?

Yes were a really talented band and they knew it i think that was there downfall. I think Steve, Chris, Jon, and Bill made up one of the greatest line-ups ever in prog music. Howe's guitar playing is amazing. I liked a lot of material but there was just tons of filler in mye eys and songs drug out too much to me. I do like the band though...

I agree with your statement 100%. A stellar band. One of the few I have loved SINCE the 1970's and still have not had the opportunity to see live. GRRRR!!!! _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

Yes are a great band. No doubt about it. They proved that rock music can have the same emotion, the same complexity, and the same power as classical music. I personally believe that Tales From Topographic Oceans is one of the greatest albums ever recorded, though some would think it is overly pretentious.....and they'd be right.

'Tales' is amazing, it's actually my favorite from them. *small tangent coming being reminded of something people say, from what you said* and I'm definitely tired of all the detractors complaining about the supposed 'overblown' and 'pretentiousness' of it. Not sure what or who introduced this virus into people's minds that things have to be one certain way in songwriting and music, and that more of something always equates to bad, but I wish somebody would kill it. I just don't get thinking that way when it comes to music for the most part. What a lot of people see as obvious is really pretty subjective, and most of the obvious things about bands are barely noticed..I just see that album and some others like it as a collection of songs, then proceed to find out what those songs are all about. It seems meaninglessly bitter and cynical to blanket some of the elements Yes use in their classic stuff with such negativity. Why not just enjoy the music and go somewhere you've never gone before? I'm glad there's Yes fans on this board.
