PostSubject: The Meaning Of Saxon's "747"   Sun Apr 06, 2008 8:26 pm

"We've got a 747 coming down in the night
There's no power, there's no runway lights
Radio operator try to get a message through
Tell the flight deck New York has no lights
There's no power what do we do?
747 coming down in the night
Try to get a message through

We were strangers in the night (*)
Both on separate flights
Strangers in the night
Going nowhere

This is Scandinavian one-o-one
Flight from Hawaii coming out of the sun
Kennedy should be in sight
We can't see a thing here in the night
Navigator says we're on the flight path
There's no radio, no sign of life
This is Scandinavian one-o-one
For God's sake, get the ground lights on, because

(Repeat *)

There's a 747 going into the night
There's no power, they don't know why
They've no fuel, they've got to land soon
They can't land by the light of the moon
They're overshooting, there's no guiding lights
Set a course into the light
Scandinavian one-o-one
For God's sake get your ground lights on

(Repeat *)"

I love the song, but I don't really understand it.

A 747 is a large passanger plane. As was common for Saxon, they wrote a lot of history around tragic events in history, and this was one of those songs.

It's obviously about gay fellatio.

2 penises one orrifice. "Strangers in the night, both on Different flights?" It should make sense to you now.

Also, "Ground lights" are a common term used to describe anal beads.

Yes, of course. Further proof.

I've found that most rock and metal songs have gay fellatio as their common denominator. It's really the foundation for enerything. Neutral

Most likely it's fictional. Just like "Princess of the Night" was probably not about a real train.

Same with Dallas 1 pm. Purely fictional. Just ask Oliver Stone.

Having never sat down to read the lyrics and just picking them up from listening to it, I always thought that Princess of the Night was about an actual woman, not a train. The "she used to bring the mail to me through the ice and snow" part did confuse me a bit though.

Every good woman should get the mail in the ice and snow and bring it to you.

After typing this comment I am reminded that Auntie Saxon has been around for awhile and is due to pop in any moment.

It's a secret code for daemon conjuration like most of Saxon's songs. The, we're just British blokes who swill ale and say fookin a lot, is all an act. They're high priests in the church of stan.

How about the lyrics that said she was "90 tons of thunder"? surprised

I guess Bif just liked fat chicks, eh? Wink

Used to bring the mail to me
Through the ice and snow
I've sat alone and watched her
Steaming through the night
Ninety tons of thunder
Lighting up the sky

She was a princess of the night
I saw the writing on the wall
She was a princess of the night
I take a ride across the sky

Speeding, sparks like lightning
Engine working hard
Furnace on the foot plate
Shining in the night
Iron striking metal
The sound of racing steel
It's all I ever wanna hear
It's music to my ears

She was a princess of the night
I saw the writing on the wall
She was a princess of the night
I take a ride across the sky

She was a princess of the night
I saw the writing on the wall
She was a princess of the night
I take a ride across the sky

Ninety tons of thunder
Lighting up the sky
Steaming red hot pistons
See the wheels flash by
Hear the whistle blowing
Streaking down the track
If I ever had my way
I'd bring the princess back one day

She was a princess of the night
I saw the writing on the wall
She was a princess of the night
I take a ride across the sky
(sky, sky, sky)

Hahaha, I actually thought it was about a biker chick, and the 90 tons of thunder was an exagerrated description of the bike.

Is 'And the Bands Played On' about a particular event?
