| I voted pooMetal but to me, these two genres are virtually indistinguishable. _________________ "Don't reenact scenes from 'Platoon' with Charlie Sheen."

Would I be able to put my hair out within a few seconds or do I have to let it burn off completely? And am I slamming the car door on my nuts voluntarily or is someone doing this to me against my will? Either way, I'm choosing one of them over the musical choices put here, but I don't feel that I can fairly decide on which form of torture I'd rather endure until I fully understand the circumstances. |

I would not lable Disturbes, SOAD and especially Soulfly "Nu-Metal" - Not because I like them alot, but - DISTURBED - I would not concider them "nu Metal" - They have an interesting sound, and SOLO'S - Their more.. "Heavy Tribal-Rythmic Mainstream-Appealing Metal" - Disturbed do no have the awful Hip Hop influences, and the music, especially the guitar-work, has a lot more variety - I kinda like them, especially theit new album, which has more real Heavy Metal than their past releases.
SOAD - I don't like them, but they are not "Nu Metal" - They have a unique sound..unfortunately, not a good one
SOULFLY - Definitely not "Nu-Metal" - Granted, their first release had a lot of "Nu" influences, but their sound is mainly Modern Aggro-Metal with Metalcore influences - Their newest release also has a lot of Machine Head sound in it |

Well, what is it exactly that makes metalcore....core? |

| I have some Metalcore albums (though not many) and I enjoy some of them on concerts. But I really can't get into NU at all. I can listen to Slipknot but an entire album is a torture, because after listening to 4 songs it begins to bore. So my vote goes for Metalcore. |

Disturbed's first 2 releases to me were def nu-metal, it doesnt have to have rap influences or hip hop to be considered nu metal. SOAD is def Nu Metal especially there debut, as well as Soulfly IMO there debut and Primative are easy picks for Nu Metal. |

I'm not avoiding the question. You're asking things that don't make sense. Nu-metal and metalcore are vastly different styles of music. Nu-metal is largely derived from alternative rock, only kicked up a few notches, making it heavier. Metalcore is was originally thrash/tradition heavy metal played through a hardcore filter (dumbed down, if you will), like in that video of Cataract I posted above. It evolved after a while and pulled in a little more of the pop side of things with the clean choruses and everything, but largely stayed the same musically. And not every band went this route, of course. It has again evolved and gotten closer to heavy metal, with leads and less screaming and more aggressive singing. But again, not every band does this. But like nu-metal, it's a broad genre now, which makes it somewhat confusing for someone not an obsessive music fan, like some of us here. Either way, nu-metal and metalcore are ambiguous "genres," namely because there are so many bands under those roofs that sound nothing like each other and play styles too different to even be considered similar. One thing is for certain, however: nu-metal is nothing like metalcore. |

| I like some bands from each genre. but I must go with nu metal, simply because it's more melodic.
Fave nu metal bands: K0rn, Coal Chamber, Global Warning
Fave metalcore bands: Shadows Fall, Mindrage
I love Disturbed, but I don't consider them nu metal. Sure their first album was, but nowadays they are pretty much a straight up hard rock act with solos and everthing. |

| God. Metalcore I think. Just because you run into less of the...whiny juvenile angryz mallcore type of stuff that nu-metal is full of. I can't tolerate that stuff at all. Zao, I love Zao. Well, every other album or so. For example, 'Liberate..' good. Self-titled...bad. 'Funeral of God'..amazing. (I know there were a couple in between, whatever). What I hate about metalcore is I don't see any use for the core influence to be there. The new hardcore stuff with all the breakdowns and all that is like a smorgasbord of bad ideas and I honestly can't see how metal benefits from it's presence, when you can amp each aspect up, make it better, and then you'd have death metal and thrash influences instead of the watered down core stuff. |
