What's your opinion of Sadus? I've read on-line that some people classify them as death metal. I've always thought of them as a thrash metal band. I know it's just genre nazi silliness, but I am just curious of people's opinions.

I voted thrash because their first album came out in '88 and death metal wasn't such a prevalent term at the time. But they are a mix, definitely.

I'd say thrash. The vocals aren't quite as gutteral as the average death metal band. Darren has more of a screechy splatter-punk kind of delivery.

Most definitely thrash. There are some obvious death metal currents within their music, but as someone said the vocals aren't gutteral enough.

I'm not all that familiar with the band, but from what I own and heard, I've thought of them as thrash.

Anybody here ever seen Sadus live? I saw'em open for Sepultura years back. Darren was insanely fun to watch. He was spittin' out those lyrics at a mile a minute with this crazed, hateful expression on his face the entire time. My friends and I thought he looked like he was gonna have a stroke on stage!

I've alway considered them Thrash.

they are thrash. their first 2 albums were just a little harsher.

They are thrash to me as well. Guttural vocals don't mean smurf poo in death metal anymore so I don't see why you think those vocals of the low register mean only death metal.

I have seen Sadus numerous times and had the cool opportunity to share the stage with them twice over the years. Really good friends too.

I've always considered them a thrash band.

I saw them at Mpls Mayhem II [they sub-bed at the last minute, cuz Sodom could not get their visas straight]. Live? Definately thrash. I have never seen a death metal band play or sound like that live.

A harsher version of thrash. Anyone calling them death metal have to get the waxed cleaned out from their ears.

Demolition Hammer's Epidemic of Violence is similar to me in that it seems to ride a fine line between the heavier edge of thrash and the lighter edge of death. I think I would tend to say thrash most of the time for both bands, but I can easily understand how another person might consider it death metal.

What other bands can you think of whose status in death or thrash might be legitimately questioned? I'd like to see what you all think.

I know Mortification have been labeled as both trash and death metal alot but personally i consider them early death metal
