PostSubject: Lou Reed   Tue Sep 16, 2008 10:14 pm

I am big Lou Reed fan, especially love his early albums " Berlin" and the live album "Rock n Roll Animal", when producer Bob Ezrin played Alice a tape of the live album, Alice was impressed he poached the band for "Welcome to My Nightmare" album and tour, Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner were a great guitar team that took Lou Reed's Velvet Underground songs and made them almost metal songs. Also like alot of Lou Reed's later stuff, such as " New York" and " Ecstacy". I am also a fan of his previous band the Velvet Underground.
Lou Reed like Iggy Pop and Mott the Hopple benefited when David Bowie took an interest in his career producing his 2nd solo album, " Transformer", which spawned his hit " Walk on the Wildside". Any fans of Lou Reed's solo work?

I never got into Lou Reed's solo stuff until in a vinyl collection I bought there were several of his records. Despite loving the Velvet Underground, it was just something I avoided for some reason. But with the vinyl I gave it a chance and really liked it. Transformer would be my favorite. I have determined that listening to him on vinyl is the best, so I've never even considered getting the cds.

Grab Berlin and Rock n Roll Animal on cd but only the remastered set,
the sound has been greatly improved, but I have to admit there is a
certain charm to listening to music on vinyl, which btw is making a bit
of comeback.

Remastered versions might be too tempting to pass up. I'll be on the look out for those. I loved all the VU remasters.

Oh yeah big fan. Like with Iggy just couldn't get my head around discussing the man.

Berlin is my fav....just so dark. Lou was definately on the H at the time.

Love the Velvets as well, particuarly their influence on one of my fav bands....the Jesus And Mary Chain.

Bumping this for Shawn, Shawn if you get interested in checking out Lou Reed's career check out the following albums:

Transformer-Produced by David Bowie, and it is Lou Reed's take on glam

Berlin- an album so dark and so depressing one critic suggested it should released with a package of razor blades, those sissy burgers in emo bands could not come up with anything as dark or as depressing as this, also it does not have any whiny self pity crapola.

Rock n Roll Animal-One of the best live albums of the 70's, Velvet Underground songs revisited as metal classic.

New York- A great classic concept album that documents New York in the 80's

and the Velvet Underground-Velvet Underground and Nico- debut that predicted the alternative nation by a good two decades

Velvet Underground-Loaded- A more straight forward album and the swan song from Vu, features the original version of 'Sweet Jane'

This is in case you want to check out what the hype was about concerning Lou Reed, that is if you are not familiar with Lou Reed's work.

I hear this guy is doing a new record with some third-tier thrash band that nobody's ever heard of as his backing band. Anyone know anything about it?

Sweet. I'd heard that Flotsam & Jetsam got their original drummer back. Just in time, I'd say.

I hope it's good and not just some artsy-fartsy project where Lou talks over some rock riffs while the guitar players cry because their ovaries hurt.
