I know another of one those annoying versus threads. I seriously dont know what to make of Death Magnetic but just wandering if you all think its better than the black album or "best album since the black album"

The Black album gets ripped a lot (by Metal/Metallica purists?) but I always thought it was very good. Death Magnetic reminds me of a cross between the pre-Black stuff and Black. It's a good mix of the two.

I think DM is miles ahead of the Black Album.

I personally like the Black album. What DM lacks to me is a really good hook, a song that will keep you coming back. DM is a great album and i love it but the Black album has some songs that are stapled in my head that probably will never leave.

"Broken, Beat And Scarred" is that hook song for me. I can't stop listening to it.

I love the black album (not as good as the first four but a great album), but Death Magnetic is the best thing they have done since AJFA

From a strictly song-writing standpoint I have to admit that "Metallica" has more memorable hooks...

...but from a stylistic standpoint I much prefer Death Magnetic and view it as more of a progression from Justice if Bob Rock hadn't entered the picture.

Death Magnetic is much better IMO. I like every song on the album.
I only liked half the songs on the Black album. Mostly the heavier stuff. (Sad but True, Holier Than Thou, Wherever I May Roam, Through the Never, Of Wolf and Man, The Struggle Witihin)

The only songs from "Metallica" that I could still stomach would be Holier Than Thou and Through The Never.

Dont Tread on me and The Struggle Within alone make that album better imo. DM is a good push to regain there older form, but at times the songs dont flow too well. I would give DM a 7/10 and as for the Blqck album i would have to give that an 8 its close but Kirks solos are much better the production is better, and James singing is in top notch.

DM is an awesome cd though but over time i dont see it having that lasting effect.

I think it's the best since Reload, it only stands above St. Anger.

I think its just as horrible, but I'd say the self titled album smokes this new waste of an album! But I dislike them both equally.

Hard for me to pick, waaaaaaay to many clunkers in between. DM is a great release for the band now and the Black album was a great release for the band back then-TJ

The Black Album all the way. It has solid songwriting and great lyrics. Detah Magnetic sounds like an unauthentic begging for dissident fans of old school to come back.

Man, I can't believe the hate for this album over here. I think it smokes.

i think it's their best one since Justice.
