| Just wandering what all of you think of what will happen to metal in general in the next decade (2010's) I reckon they'll alotta 90s bands reuniting (hopefully My Sister's Machine will reunite :metal: ) and also I think (hopefully) metalcore will be put to shame like glam metal in the early 90s haha. |

| I don't see anything good happening. We'll probably be forced to buy Mp3 metal. |

| I like 80s hair metal provided you strip out the requisite power ballads on every album. _________________ "Don't reenact scenes from 'Platoon' with Charlie Sheen."

| I think it will be more and more generally accepted again. Since the classic bands keep filling up the stadiums the commercial forces are forced to write about it, thus making more poeple aware of metal again. Perhaps we'll even see a return of the metal popularity, just like in the 80's. _________________ |

| We'll probably see a lot of 90's band reunions, ala Limp Bizkit and bands like Korn or Marilyn Manson getting back with "all the original members", stuff like that. Also, by the next decade, kids that grew up listening to nu-metal will be putting out music. Is anyone looking forward to music from some kid that was inspiried by Brian 'Head' Welch and the dj from Incubus? Ugh! I'm getting too old to care about metal's popularity and I'm just fine with it being underground and not the flavor of the week. With the internet, it's easy enough to discover these bands. Sure, it would be nice to see guys get some financial payoff and /or some recognition for their efforts. But if that don't happen, that's too bad for 'em. They can thank the gen-Xers and -Yers raised on stealing music. _________________ A legend in posting since February 1st, 2007

| I really don't care what metal does or doesn't do in the next few years or decades. There will always be bands playing real metal somewhere. It can't be squelched.
The only thing I really don't look forward to is the possibility of being forced to buy albums in mp3 format. That's dumb. But again, there will always be plenty of used CDs to buy online. |

| I agree with the mp3 movement. With computer recording equipment and software, bands don't have to sell their souls to get a decent recording. The good thing about mp3's is that no matter what style of music you play, it's a lot more feasible to get your music recorded decently and distributed. As long as there are metal bands, they can record and distribute their music freely giving us true headbangers access to multiple tunage. |

| There's a resurgence of the 80's bands right now. Whether that proves to be a nostalgia trip is open for discussion but some of the newer stuff has that stamp on it already. |

Not unless they put it in Guitar Hero. |
And even then, I highly doubt it. |

| I'm no Nostradamus, but I think Metal will be more diverse in the coming decade because of globalization in that we will hear more bands from countries that even 5 years ago were off the map. I have found bands on myspace from places I never thought metal musicians would be in (like in my home country of Armenia). I love the diversity and that metal is no longer just confined to the western world of the US and Europe.
TOB, like Scott asked, in what way is metal in trouble?

| Probably like it was said before. MP3 replacing cd's, not totaly but, it could make cd's being more expensive.
Probably we see X-Japan becomes big on the States |

| I think metal will be very healthy and will go thru cycles where its in the mainstream and than of course go back to being a little more underground. Right now it is best time to be a metal fan, you have the entire history of metal available to you, with veteran bands still touring and recording, newer bands popping out of the woodwork from all over the world.
Metal has never been healthier and the interest of the genre has grown, with VH1 meeting the demand by doing specials, creating the metal show, radio specials and magazines doing articles on the history of metal. |
