| if you were a respectable 80s thrash metal band that had a good fan base and were on a major label and the year is 1992 and since metal has become a derogatry term would you: A go grunge/ alternative B QUIT C Still go thrash but go on an independent label D Do what Overkill, Fight and Souls At Zero did (in 1993) which in my opinion was the best thing to do follow the latest metal trend by changing to a Pantera, Industrial metal, Death Metal or a Stoner Metal sound and be influenced by bands like Kyuss, Pantera, Prong, Death, Ministry, COC and Fear factory but however don't get caught up in the nu metal trend in the mid to late 90s |

| Well if it was 1992, no one would be given these options, so I'd go with what I and my band decided what to do. I am not a whole band, and it would take the whole band to make a commitment and figure out what we're doing. I'm sure it would feel like just another year, not a huge breakthrough. |

| The answer of course is: Thrash until the doors come off. Go with the grittiest, bare bones production values and have your final product rattle the speakers in every single van which your music has the pleasure to grace. I like what Overkill did with the groove metal thang. It's not like they bit on a chubby shwantz, or ate smurf poo. Those recordings are good, yo. I like the recent ones like Immortalis and Killbox too. But, I frakkin love how Onslaught and Exodus re-invented themselves this decade. They didn't F around at all. The stories of both bands should be an object lesson on how not to sell out to the man. |

| I'd say C and D.
I like bands that stuck to their guns, but also like bands that went in a heavier direction. |

| Keep playing music that you are compelled to make, despite whatever the current trend is, if you try to follow all the lastest trends you will be like a dog chasing is own tail. Plus fans no matter what genre can smell a phony from a mile away. |

| I'd probably quit music altogether and open a porn shop. That's where the real money is anyway. _________________ "Boys, set the terror level at code brown, 'cause I need to change my pants." -- President Hathaway, "Monsters vs. Aliens"

Hardly. I don't know anyone who has labeled Metallica as grunge/alt. after 1992. Not too many grunge bands around these days that I see as popular as Metallica. |

This reminds me of the old "What if Metallica never sold out?" thread. |
