What about INXS?

Another excellent choice, this band had alot more substance both musicially and lyrically then they were given credit for.

Yeah, INXS is one of my "guilty pleasure" bands. I have all their albums and probably shouldn't but there's something I really like about their sound.

Wasn't Madness part of the two-tone sound? I always lumped them in with The Specials.

Yea, they were kinda "ska" I guess, but I agree with what Rattpoison said, the "new wave" label was more about the time/era and not so much about a particular sound. I used to see Madness vids on MTV all the time along with all of the other bands that have been mentioned so far, so I always kinda lumped them in with "new wave."

I like ABC. I have the one after that album "Beauty Stab"; it's got more of a rock vibe.

I always liked that Frankie Goes To Hollywood song along with "Two Tribes".

I never heard of that second band.

When I was a member of Columbia House Cds and Tape club I order the 'Living In Oblivion vol. 1-5, great selection of 80's pop/new wave tunes, worth buying if you see them cheap.

Total Coelo? You didn't miss much. They were an all-girl one (minor) hit wonder pop band. Though the video for the track "I Eat Cannibals" is hilarious due to the trash bag fashions.

Another band I love from that era is the Divinyls, they had a huge hit in the early 90's with 'I Touch Myself' but they deserved better than just one hit, plus the vocalist Christina was hot in badgirl sort of way, Toho when you get home tonight check out the video to "Pleasure and Pain' on you tube.

I remember I Touch Myself.

Man, reading through the bands and songs in this thread sure is a stroll down memory lane...

I love this song too, but I actually only got into it in the 90's. My brother called me from Austin, where he had heard it in an "Throwback Lunch" type of show in a local alternative station. He did not catch the name of the band, but gave me the premise. I recall digging around until I finally found the song, and actually found a compilation that contained it. This was around 93, so tying to find an mp3 on the internet and dowloading it was still a couple of years away. It was harder to find then.

I don't consider this band to be New Wave (they came in just a couple of years later), but I am a HUGE Smiths fan. I also love Morrissey's solo output.

I'd say that they are my favorite band out of New Wave other than Adam & The Ants/Adam Ant. I just love Danny Elfman's quirky and ghastly ways of writing. My favorite track would have to be "Only A Lad". Does anyone think their stuff after Dead Man's Party is any good?

They released an album simply called under the name of Oingo that was not too bad.

Any fans of The Beat or as they were known in America, The English Beat?

To this day I just can't seem to get enough of these guys music. I especially love their first few albums and their first one, I Just Can't Stop It, is one of my all time favorite '80s albums.
Most would throw them style-wise into the pop-ska category and they are I think one of the best ever in that genre.

I had both of those comps at one time and I thought that they were pretty good.
