LIONHEART - great album. Especially like "Witchfinder General," what an opener!

Saxon puts out another superb album and though they don't stray too far from their formula, they do is so well it's more then forgivable. Classic opening song to grab you in State Of Grace, some speedy numbers in Need For Speed and Let Me Feel Your Power and a seeming AC/DC inspired song like I've Got To Rock To Stay Alive which upholds their seeming need to say rock and be cheesy. Everything is strong and Nigel Glockler is back behind the kit to give you that classic Saxon rhythm. The big surprise here is Attila The Hun which is somewhat experimental for them and clocks in at over eight minutes long. Maybe they've been listening to Dream Theatre. My favorite song on the album and one that vies to be my favorite Saxon song overall is Ashes To Ashes that incorporates everything good about them: solid guitars with tasteful solos, a chorus that is big with the whole gang joining in while having that darker vibe they've incorporated in more recent offerings. Great stuff incorporating classic NWOBHM with some more modern power metal that should be putting them nearer the front of the pack.

This one took awhile to grow on me, for some reason. I just didn't think it was as good as Lionheart. It's still an excellent album and I've come to appreciate it more.

I have the version with the bonus DVD titled 'A Night out with the Boys'. There's live tracks (a real good selection of classic Saxon songs) and interviews.

Favourite tracks: Red Star Falling, Going Nowhere Fast, Let Me Feel Your Power

The latest offering of strong music from the working class boys of Britain. Not as much fanfare as Inner Sanctum and there is something odd about the album, like the compression is off maybe? But the songs are strong and they do a full out bluesy rendition of Coming Home from Killing Ground. Biff shows his power on the ballad, Voice, and again the strong riffs are there, more then solid rhythm section and a couple blues influenced numbers to make you bang your head. The problem here might be they've done so many strong but similar albums that only a few purists will feel the need to own all their latest albums. I think they're more then worth it and it's great to see a band I grew up with still going strong.

That's it. There are a lot of comp. albums and of course all the live ones and if anyone wants to add those feel free but as for me, that's all she wrote.

I voted for the current 01-now... which frankly is almost blasphemy.... I was weened on 'The Eagle Has Landed' in 1983... blew my mind and my speakers...

I went back and got the rest, lost interest after 'Destiny' and p/up 'Heavy Metal Thunder' in 2003... MONSTER stuff...

Almost a complete new outlook for me on Saxon.... I've Got To Rock To Stay Alive!!!

Into the Labyrinth is solid Saxon. I'd say all their albums since Unleash the Beast have been excellent. A very consistent band.

Battalions of Steel and Hellcat were favourites after the first listen, but now I think I like all the tracks. Crime of Passion, Voice and Protect Yourself may not be fast, but they are driven by a very heavy guitar sound, a pounding beat and infectious verses.

Come Rock of Ages is among the best Saxon anthems. Live to Rock is silly, but fun. Slow Lane Blues presents a different side of the band, another entertaining track.

Demon Sweeney Todd took some time for me to get into, but it is another highlight.

Does anyone know which albums were remastered and which ones weren't? Also the ones I bought today were remastered by EMI were they all released by them or were they re-released and remastered by different labels?

Which four did you get? I think up 'til Destiny they were on EMI so they rereleased many of those though some were rereleased on Axe Killer. Solid Ball through Dogs were on Virgin and SPV has rereleased those.

Nice to have ya back, Mr.E!

Pretty much everything that needed to be has been remastered. Hell, half of the stuff has even been re-recorded! Innocence and Destiny are hard to find as they only were re-issued on Axe Killer in '99 ['00 maybe?]. I don't believe Rock n Roll Gypsies has ever seen re-issue. RnRG is not legendary like the Eagle has Landed, but it has some cool stuff that never appeared on any other live albums. and the sound quality is very "warm" and of the era. Gonna go bust that out right now, actually.

Thanks Sax!! I saw I missed a Comp 6 Swap... oh well next time....

I've been on a Saxon RUN !!! I absolutely love "I've Got to Rock To Stay Alive" that song rules! In the last few months I've picked up Lionheart (brilliant), Killing Ground (unreal), Dogs of War (solid), Solid Ball of Rock (amazed) and Destiny(of all things).... The remaster of Strong Arm with the bonus tracks is 'Phenomenal'.....

Listened to good portion of 'Solid Ball of Rock' today... I remember hearing it when it first came out and I had such a lousy taste from their previous couple of albums I didn't give this one a chance....

There is some SOLID metal here. From the title cut to "Baptism of Fire" to "Altar of The Gods"... There is good stuff here... Very CRANKABLE !!
