| I think this is a great idea BTW. Provided the paired up people have similar musical tastes. What a great way to discover new music! _________________ "There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats." - Albert Schweitzer |

| Okay, finally the old fat one is moving! This the first time i have joined in on this comp swap thing. Thought it would be a nice way to learn what others here listen to, and maybe get turned on to a new band or two! Wasnt sure what to excpect when i was paired with Mr Shiney, but WOW, what a plesant surprise!!!!!! I`ve been introduced to some awesome bands/music, that i never`would have gotten around to check out haden`t it been for him!!! As for writing a "review" i am not competent of reviewing music the traditional way. Neither am any good at putting music in to genres. So this will all be just my personal thoughts on the comp.
Today- DISC 1:
SAHARA STEEL- Fatal heartbreaker Great opener, never heard of the band, but to me it sounds like good old Eighties inspired heavy metal. Great driving guitarplaying/soloing, cool vocals, catcy chorus, definitely something i would buy and keep if availabel.
16 HORSEPOWER- Brimstone rock The intro reminds me of a favourite band of mine, The Brandos, and the singer also reminds me of someone, not sure who i am thinking of. This is country/folk rock, and it is absolutely GREAT. Will hunt down some of their music, reccomended album??
BUCK PETS- Avenue F Blues Rock, with a dash of punk i think. Cool simple song with simple realistic lyrics (no dungeons and dragons here ) Me likes
PETER GABRIEL- Family snapshot. Mega big artist, that killed all my interest in his music by making one of the worst songs i have ever heard: Sledgehammer But i surrender, the other songs i`ve heard are fantastic, don`t give up w Kate Bush, Biko, and now this one. A beautiful song, love it!!!!
PIXIES-Head on I own a LP by them, monkey on the cover??. Didn`t get into them back then, but this song is great! Hm, maybe i am growing up???
SLEDGEHAMMER LEDGE. It ain`t pretty WOW WOW. What is this??????? Totally KILLER song. Traditional good old HEAVY METAL. The vocals remind me of Blackie Lawless!! Never heard of this band, but this goes to the top of my want list.
DEADBOY & THE ELEPHANTMEN- Stop i`m already dead. Some sort of Rock, indie/alt I don`t know Very cool song, sort of drags you into it, Listening to it with headphones made me forget the world around me, sort of hypnotizing rythm/feel.
THE HORRORS- Count in Fives More punkish rock. British sounding to me. Another cool song.
THE JONESES -She`s so filthy Also here i hear punk, maybe with some Sixties Rock`n Roll feeling. Like it a lot!!!
FORMICIDE- Them Thrash baby . Starts with a bass intro (love em) and two minutes into the song i`m thinking. This is extremely cool quality Thrash and i haven`t even heard of the band . Another band that should have been far more known. One more for the wantlist.
ELVIS COSTELLO- Oliver`s Army One more familiar artist that i have more or less ignored. If there are more songs this good by him, i may have to check out some more. A very laid back, catchy song. Like it!!
KILLINGBIRD- Just like Heaven More great music that`s totally new to me. Pretty straight forward and catchy!! One more plesant surprise!!!
ELECTRIC SIX- Gay Bar This one is a short and funny song. A perfect drinking song!! Would be perfect on one of my party mixes .
TOWNES VAN ZANDT- Lungs. Like Gabriel and Costello, an artist i`ve always been aware of, but never checked out. Country/Folk music is very good when it`s not to Country (if that makes sense). A great voice and a good song.
SPEEDBALL BABY- Shakin`it loose Honestly the only song on this disc i will skip. Biggest problem for me is the effect on the vocals (dont know what it`s called in English), like singing in a megaphone or something. Unnessesary, not terrible but falls flat compared to the rest of this disc.
ROLLING STONES- Dead flowers More Country i thought listening to the beginning of the song. And actually this sounds very country to me. Had no idea Stones were cowboys . Good song
THE CURE- Three imaginary boys. A band my wife likes very much. A cool tune. Woun`t make me run to the store, but definitely a good listen
PRONG- Prove you wrong. I was pretty sure this band wasn`t my thing. I`ve seen them described as industrial and that`s a turn off for me. But i actually enjoyed this song. If this is their sound, i can dig it!!!
WILSON GIL & THE WILLFUL SINNERS- Bad reputation Crazy name. Very American sounding Rock. And that`s useually a good thing. Anotherone i had never heard of, but really liked!
BAD BISCUT- American dream Final track on disc one. A killer song. Not sure what genre this band fits in. A perfect ending to a disc that will be a frequent player for me.
So thanks a lot Shiney, for a killer comp, and for giving me a guide into a lot of cool stuff that`s new to me. Will return any day now with a review of disc 2.

| O.K,I've been spinning the disc ensiferum2k sent me all week.Heres my sorry review skills. ATTACK-Death Rider-Great classic/epic metal song.Reminds me alot of Iron Maiden in the vocals and music style. CAULDRON BORN-The Swords Lament-This song has an epic feel to it as well.Very good power metal.I think they sound alot like Sacred Warrior, which is a good thing. DEATH MILITIA-Killing Time-Alright,some Thrash! These guys are good. What else can I say,its just good old school Thrash. DESASTER-Metalized Blood-This is an awesome song. These guys play some decent thrash. The odd thing is the vocals which I like but there are 3 different vocal styles. They start out with a gritty thrash voice, the next verse in very similar to Roger Martinez on the old Vengeance albums. The third is a falsetto voice similar to King Diamond.Very unique, and I like it. DESTROYER666-The Calling-Not really my thing.Kinda Deathy black vocals. The music aint bad though PAGAN REIGN-Slavaniskoe-I really like this.I dont listen to alot of this kind of stuff but I need to pick some up.I dont know what you'd call it,kinda folky, with blackish vocals. Is that a flute I hear in there?Pretty good song with an awesong riff. FERAT-Dokanalej Vrah-Good romping thrasher with a unique sneering vocals.Another to check out. PRIMORDIAL-Graven Idol-Didnt really care much for this.I guess this is another Black metal band, not my thing. REVEREND BIZARRE-Cromwell-This is an odd song that immediately caught my attention. This is a good doomy jam with baritone vocals. The guitar tone is sludgey like old Sabbath.Good song. PENTAGRAM-Broken Vows-Classic Doom here folks.Anyone who hasnt heard this band needs to check them out. PENTAGRAM-Sigh of the Wolf-Another one by this great doom band. This song is great,Galloping riff, mid range clean vocals.Awesome ROOT-Festival of Destruction-Crunchy thrashy riffs with over the top Baritone vocals. Background vocals remind you of chanting. What do you call this?It has an epic/viking sound to it.Pretty good. SOLSTICE-Absolution Extremis-Another Doom song, with midrange vocals. This is a slow plodding song.Pretty Decent song. SLOUGH FEG-The Final Gambit-Epic/classic band that reminds me of Twisted Sister at times. The vocals are similar to Dee Snider at times.Good rocker that gallops along at a nice pace. SLOUGH FEG-Hiberno-Latin Invasion-Another Song from this claassic metal band. This song reminds of old rock from the late 70s,early 80s,Another good song. A Great comp that although had a couple I didnt like gave me some new bands to check out. Thanks Ensiferum2k,nice job on the disc. |

Man, that was a Shiney comp, alright!! haha
I think reviewers are not giving themselves enough credit. We can't all be Eyesore. But I have enjoyed reading every single review and it's gotten me interested in some of bands I never heard, as well!! Nice job crew!
And as far as GingerJake goes - I am not much into the what the kids are diggin' these days. But that Paralysis ep is a true exception - and they rock old school on stage!! If it impressed MC666, that is saying quite a bit right there! Totally recommended. _________________ UNCLE SAXON'S CRAZY CD SELLOFF! |

| So here is my review of Required Fields' Metal To The Bone. In no way do I do it the justice it deserves.
METAL TO THE BONE
Chastain -For Those Who Dare Back in 1990 the free area monthly Roxx would go on and on about how great Chastain were (particularly Leather Leone's vocals). Always wanted to check them out but could never find this album. Had long since forgotten to keep looking. Thankfully this reminded me. Actually did something I almost never do - bought the remaster off of Itunes.
Overthrow - Suppression What a great band name. They live up to it too. These guys should have done much more.
Dio - Hide In The Rainbow I always loved Iron Eagle so much more than Top Gun. Soundtrack included, which this is from. I love the one-off soundtrack cut that deserved to be on an album. The synthesizers even work for me. Also I can now retire my dubbed cassette version off my Ipod.
Crimson Glory - Dream Dancer One convention I will never tire of is the slow acoustic start leading to the soaring chorus, repeat several times, and throw in a nice long solo. Gets me every time out. This is a classic.
Aria - Play With Fire Russia's Iron Maiden. Always heard about them, but never heard anything by them till now. A great epic with all the elements. The Russian language was made for this type of material.
Morgoth - Isolated Great emotional range on the death vocals, at one point even going into a whisper. It's also a song loaded with atmosphere. I liked it so much I went ahead and ordered a double disc best of.
Angel Witch - Rendezous With The Blade Always over-looked NWOBM. Six minutes of classic metal.
Disciples Of Power - Nature's Fury (Betrayed Earth) The vocals sound like they are being inhaled and given the song's topic it completely works.
Anonymus - Ni Vu, Ni Connu Music in a language I don't speak is always something I love. Because even though I might not know the words - I know what they're saying. Especially a killer old school thrash tune such as this. Neither seen nor been known is the translation I believe.
Heathen - Empty Nothingness (2005 demo) I always felt this was a group I would love but for whatever reason never checked out. My mistake. This is an amazing song and should have gotten them a deal. Checked out their website and they have free mp3s of their first two albums. I also bought a t-shirt too. Can't say enough good things about this song and group. My favorite currently playing.
Monstrosity - Final Cremation Blistering death metal that never lets up. Forboding and heavy.
Eudoxis - Attack From Above "let go the first SALVO" Love the way the song builds it's story. Quiet acoustic passage (with birds chirping) leads to the air-raid then attack. Killer song.
Horde Of Torment - Blood Justice I would so love to find a copy of Product Of A Sick Mind. Makes me want to mosh or skate.
Razor- The Meaning Of Pain Starts with a great riff before launching into an all out assault of angry thrash. Unrelenting goodness.
Metal Church - Date With Poverty All Metal Church is good Metal Church as far as I'm concerned. This is a great one.
Plenty from the Comp I'm going to be looking further into and in some cases already have. And the best part is this is only Part One. The second disc METAL OVERDOSE is still to come. |

| Round two of my view into Shiney`s crazy world of music, disc 2: GRAVEYARD BBQ- Creamskull boogie Excellent start to this one, hard for me to describe, but a very cool, fast song. KING OF KINGS- Seasons of Eve More unknown to me. Kind of proggy rock maybe? Great song with a vocalist that sounds very good in my ears. THOUGHT INDUSTRY- Third Eye More progressive tendencies.. Far from bad, but a bit "noisy" for my tastes. JOHNNY CASH- Beans for breakfast Johnny Cash was a great great man that i admire a lot!! His music means a lot to me, also his humorous songs , as this one are great!!!! BLAZ-ON- Mondays This is totally unknown to me, but a great song!! I`m guessing in the glam/sleaze vein, cool vocals! VAGH- To hell and back again More good stuff, absolutely worth checking out!! BIRDLAND- Shoot you down Hm, not what i useually listens to but another very positive surprise. Like it MASTERS OF REALITY- Doraldins prophesies I was sure this was a Sabbath tribute band, but no. Cool song AB/CD- 12 beers Now THIS is a tribute band, i think they call themselves the ultimate tribute band . And they really are insanely good!!! TOM WAITS- Long way home What a voice!! A fantastic song by a unique great artist!!! DANGER- Tomorrow`s glitter A truly awesome Metal song!! Me wants WILLIE NELSON- Devil in a sleeping bag This man is a living legend!!! I own a couple of his Cd`s. He is coming to play in a town near me in May, and me and some friends are going, FIREBALL MINISTRY- Spill the demons Some kind of metal with raw vocals, not bad but not great either. ICE COLD JULY- Live/Amazing grace Thats more like it!!! Great rocker that ends in truly amazingly beautiful version of Amazing Grace MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE- Teenagers Ok i admit it, i like them too!! Got the album, it`s great!! ZANE CAMPBELL- Post mortem bar Perfect ending to this double disc journey in Shineyland!! Just wanna say thanks Shiney, i`ll get back to you with some questions/info on what i will buy/check out |
