I'm not much for reviews, but here's comments on my favorite songs:

Sin after sin kills!!! I like the thrashy version of this song. I like the thrash riffing under the verses and especially like the changes made to the guitar solo. Excellent vocals as well. Could be my favorite track on the CD. This was just an average song on Under the Blade, but you guys made it killer!

Can't get out. The guitar work is tighter than the original version. I love the original too, but I think you really out did it. I never noticed that the gang vocals changed at the end of the song on the original from Cant Get Out to Let Me Out until I heard the ult version. I also never realized how heavy that opening riff was until I heard this version. the riff is hidden under the wah-wah soloing on the original. It was rad that you guys left the soloing off the beginning of the song so that heavy riff would be out front. Also like the added opening and the gang chorus ending. Tied as my favorite song on the CD.

Gut Wrench. I agree with Steve Rowe. You guys destroyed the original version of this song.

Locked in chains. Well, i finally heard the original version and it's good, but the ult version is heavier. Having heard it first, I think I prefer the ultimatium version best.

Ton of brick. WOW!!! great choice for an opening song. Fast. Heavy! Thrash! excellent job on the vox ult. Rad drum work.

Metal health. The first 30 seconds of that song is about the heaviest thing ever esp when those cannon drums and the growl come in! Heavy guitar sound too. This one sounds like it's tuned down a bit or in a different key or something.

The more I've listened to this the more I like the cover of Iron Fist.

I just got mine. I'll let you know after I finish listening it what songs were my faves.

After a few spins this is what I have to say. My first listen was hard because I am used to the clean vocals of the original versions. But Now I am digging every single song. Great effort guys. I hope this would help you to surpass your latest studio album.

I am really blown away by Lex Metalis. The playing is top notch and I really like how the original song arrangements are 'tinkered' with and not overdone for the most part. At least with the tracks that I was already accustomed to hearing; so I cannot say anything on the songs that were new for me, but I can guess they were not too off as well.

New songs for me were Locked In Chains (never heard the Moshketeers music, but had heard of them); Gut Wrench (I actually own the Mort cassette this came from, but cannot find it and do not remember that song); and Powersurge (never really followed Overkill).

Of all the songs done, I will say that Sin After Sin is the most extreme make over, because even though I could tell what song it still was, it was the most radically different from the original. Next would be Steeler with it's very abrasive tone. If, and only if, I felt the need to skip a track, it would be Moto Psycho, as I have never liked the song; but you have redeemed it as much as can be done (to my ears).

What a killer disc. Only complaint, should have been a double disc with more Ultimatumized tunes!

I'm watching the Return With A Vengeance DVD and Ultimatum's version of "Can't Get Out" is even better than Scott singing with the original Vengeance band.

Been spinning this one quite a bit, and it really strikes the balance between honouring the original yet having the band's own stamp on it. The songs are all recognisable, yet it's also unmistakably Ultimatum. In short, this rocks!

I think it's great. My faves are Locked In Chains, Gut Wrench, Ton Of Bricks and Can't Get Out. I think the Ultimatum version of Gut Wrench absolutely destroys the original, and Can't Get Out is just as good as the Vengeance Rising recording.

ULT - Did you get the second copy back yet? I sent it out last Saturday AM.

Got my copy today! I like all the cool little extras, too! Awesome.

The first thing I did was to open it, savoring the moment (thanks for the post-it note, Robert- that was cool!), and read Scott's intro message on the first page next to the autographs (thanks, guys!) Then I read every one of the personal notes from the band about the songs and how each one meant something to them and why it was chosen. Those are really cool. Then I read the Thanks list, noticing that I am in it! Cool! :metal: Then, after reading everything, I carefully put the disc back in the case, straightening it to where the Ultimatum logo is nice and level, haha! I always do that.

In a bit, I'm gonna crank it up in the truck.

This is the BEST covers cd in the past few years and way better than what alot of bigger name bands have put out.

The only exception being Tesla's two Real to Reel cds
which by the way (IMHO) is one the best cover projects around.

Guess being turned on to music in the 70's had alot to with that, anyways
Robert's playing is phenominal and the band slammed thier ID like a 21 year old at the bar for the first time on his birthday, as well as giving a nod to the originals. Actually, the entire band kicked it up a notch. Thumbs up for the tunes, the band , and the producer.

well,i guess,its time i weighed in! i have posted reviews that ult has read though.ok..i am never impressed with cover tunes.however,make no mistake this is the best i have ever heard! period! these are all metal tunes i grew up with with the exception of moshketeers.but,ultimatum branded these songs and called them their own.i think it shows their extroidinary talents as singers,drummers,and guitarists.this is an incredibl cd! "locked in chains,mental health,denim and leather" all my favorites! you guys just blew me away!!!.whether you are a new ulti fan or an older one or even just a plain metalhead.this is an absolute must for anyones collection!!! i am hopin in another 10 years or so..we have a sequel to this!! clearly,the best cd of 2009! period!! i think it just awesome that ultimatum's record company would support this.shows the record company knows of the truly outstanding musicans these guys are!!! i cant wait to see some of these songs live! wow! serious headbanging! the band is right.."lex metalis" metal is law! metal rules and ultimatum has a great one to add to their ever increasing great resume! well,done guys! i love it! and they didnt pay me to say this either! cant wait for the next cd and the next live show! all my best and support,guys,always!!
