| How about an acoustic version of Judas Priest's "Last Rose of Summer"?
That would make for a really cool break in the show, like when KISS did "Beth" after "God of Thunder". It's like whoa. _________________ sword and shield, bone and steel, rictus grin...deaf forever to the battles din

| Well, we are in discussions with the record company about recording a cover CD, or at least and EP. Here was some of my suggestions to the band. Not sure any of this will happen, as nothing is written in stone, but it would be cool if it happened.
EXODUS - Thrash Under Pressure EXODUS - Toxik Waltz (can't believe no one has covered this song yet.) MOSHKETEERS - Poseurs of Deceit MOSHKETEERS - Nightmares MOSHKETEERS - Ye! (w/ a modified guitar solo section) MORTIFICATION - Influence MORTIFICATION - Gut Wrench OVERKILL - In Union We Stand OVERKILL - Wrecking Crew ANVIL - Blood on the Ice (gotta love a tribute to hockey!) SAINT - In the Night METAL CHURCH - Ton of Bricks
I also might suggest a Combat Faith song. Not to many people know this Albuquerque band, but since Alan use to be in that band, it might be fun.
We are already playing "Creeping Death" so that would be a given, I think.

| Violent Revolution. I mean come on Scott your vocals would fit awesomely with that song. Just a thought anyway. _________________ ''I tried out that Buckethead guy. to many Moshketeers selections... they suck. i'd love to hear you do "Evil Has No Boundries" by Slayer. or how about The Cleansing, by Overkill, sans the curse words. _________________

We would only use one of the Moshketeers songs. Those are just my suggestions to the band. Alan, Rob and Robert will also have a list of suggestions. Then we will have to pick the one's we want to use. We wouldn't cover more than one song from each artist.
The Cleansing might not be a bad idea.. hmmm... _________________

| Rob suggested: Motorhead - Iron Fist Judas Priest - Steeler
Both good suggestions.
Still waiting on the others. _________________

I would love to hear Ultimatum take on either of those Overkill tracks, and/or Metal Church's "Ton Of Bricks." _________________

| as cool as it would be, i cannot see you actually coving Overkill's The Cleansing, due to it's cursing.
my vote would be for Priest's Grinder. let's see if you can top Kreator's version. _________________

Yup, absolutely right on 'The Cleansing'. Wouldn't work. Sacrament is out. Great song, but it just doesn't sound like Ultimatum to me. Robert agrees with me.
I'm really liking Nightmares by The Moshketeers and am pushing for that one.
I think Iron First is a definite possibility. Everyone loves the song and Rob has already learned it. _________________

| i'd go for the Motorhead as well then. i have no idea who the Moshketeers are. if they are a Christian band, you already have that audience, being one of the more well know Christian metal bands out there. it would make more sense to try & win over those who may be on the fence about Christian metal. just my opinion though. i'll have to be on the lookout for Moshketeer's material. _________________

They were a local band from Albuquerque. We were all big fans of them when they were around. We thought it be cool to pay tribute to at least one band that wasn't well known, yet still had an influence on us. Also, we might see if we can get Paul Scozzafava from the Moshketeers to do some vocals on the track with me. As well, Alan Tuma, our current drummer use to be in The Moshketeers, so that is cool too.
We do plan on doing mostly secular songs, but I think a Moshketeers and Mortification track are pretty likely. _________________

| I posted this information and list of possible covers on a few other boards. It seems the choice of "MotoPshyco" by Megadeth is a very UNpopular choice. LOL! Many seem to feel this is a lame song and not worthy of covering. Robert picked the song and seems to like it. I'm sure we would thrash it up a bit.
| Quote: | why Motopsycho? that's one of the simplest Megadeth song ever written...you guys have the ability to cover something like Holy Wars or even Hook in Mouth.
Creeping Death? very, very bad choice, I don't know how many bands have covered this and covered it bad, but another version of it?...Not even i wouldn't listen to it...Why not cover something else from that album instead....like Escape and make it an Ultimatum song...It's a great and often overlooked song. |
Also seems that "Grinder" is a choice that caused a bit of an uproar among some of our Christian fans.
| Quote: | | I would not question your right to do what you want. But the choice of probably Priest's most "gay" song is a major turnoff, and would probably prevent me from even buying the record. I'm really surprised a Christian band would even consider covering this, Scott. |
Some other songs suggested: Wrathchild America - Silent Darkness (Smothered Life) Anthrax - N.F.L. Starz - Violation Annihilator - Alison Hell KISS - I Megadeth - Peace Sells... Twisted Sister - Burn In Hell Metal Church-Start The Fire Megadeth - Hook in Mouth Megadeth - Holy Wars Aerosmith - Toys in the Attic _________________

| Since when is "Grinder" Judas Priest's "gheyest" song? I thought that honor was a tie between "Raw Deal" and "Jawbreaker." _________________

I don't know. I read the lyrics. As with most Priest songs, the lyrics could be interpreted several ways. However, according to the Rock Island posters, the song is about homosexual sex.
Grinder [Halford/Tipton/Downing]
Never straight and narrow I won't keep in time Tend to burn the arrow Out of the line
Been inclined to wander Off the beaten track That's where there's thunder And the wind shouts back
Grinder, Looking for meat Grinder, Wants you to eat
Got no use for routine I shiver at the thought Open skies are my scene That's why I won't get caught
Refuse to bite the mantrap Be led to set the snare I love to have my sight Capped everywhere
Grinder, Looking for meat Grinder, Wants you to eat
[solo Glenn]
I've held my license It came with birth, For self reliance on this earth You take the bullet On which my name Was etched upon in your game
Day of independence Stamped us like a brand Round the necks of millions To the land
As the mighty eagle I need room to breathe Witness from the treadmill I take my leave
Grinder, Looking for meat Grinder, Wants you to eat Grinder, Looking for meat Grinder, Wants you to eat
Grinder _________________

Ehhhh... whatever...there are a LOT of Priest songs that could be interpreted "that way" if you really want to go there. (In this guy's case, he's probably hung up on the "meat" references. ) I bet the guy who posted that message would probably be happier if you didn't cover ANY Priest songs, cuz they're probably ALL about homosexual sex in his mind...
But seriously, if covering "Grinder" is a reason for him not to buy your CD, the heck with'em. You don't need that guy!!
"Grinder" is a great song. If it was good enough for Kreator to cover, then it should be good enough for you guys!! I don't quite understand the hate for Megadeth's "MotoPsycho" either... granted, that album (WORLD NEEDS A HERO) is not one of Deths' stronger efforts, but that's one of the better songs on it (along with "Dread & The Fugitive Mind" and "Return to Hangar") _________________
